Somewhere nice to go for the weekend driving from London? Maybe Wales?

Evening all.

Am considering getting away for the weekend - was looking at the Lake District but don't feel like driving that far (300 miles).

Can anyone recommend anywhere a bit nearer to London? Perhaps Wales?

Not city locations, like countryside/mountains?

Thank yous x

From London that can be quite a treck mind, the Gower is quite nice, and about half hour closer than Tenby. But if your up for the traveling then yes Tenby and the surrounding areas are very nice

If your looking for mountains and rugged scenery I would suggest you look at the Peak District
Plenty of historic and interesting villages and towns also has walking opportunities galore.

get a cheap train deal up to the yorkshire dales or derbyshire peak district

The New Forest is nice if you want countryside, and some lovely places to visit like Lyndhurst and Beaulieu. If you want beaches you could go a bit further on to Studland Bay (Swanage), which has some of the best beaches in the country.

Brecon looks lovely and so the New Forest is appealing because its not too far and we loved Bournemouth when we went last year :)

Thanks everyone, really appreciate you suggestions. I am hoping to get to the Lake district sometime, wouldn't mind the journey for a week's holiday

Lovely place, soft rolling hills rather than mountains. A visit to Dartmoor National Park as well.

I stayed in Exeter last year and had a good time. OK exeter is a city but only a short drive to a lot of coastal towns (Brixham, Paighton, Torquay, Dawlish, etc) and only a short drive to Dartmoor national park. If you really don't want a city then go for one of the coastal towns like Brixham.
