Hi my sons PS3 just stopped playing game discs yesterday out of the blue. It will play blu ray films and if he goes thorugh the menu he can get into the games but they will not play automatically when he puts them in the PS3 like they used to. He had not made any adjustments to his settings prior to this. He has tried resetting to default settings but nothing has helped. His warranty ran out on Friday ( Typical) anyone got any useful ideas to help him.

Restore default settings under the system settings menu. See if that helps. Also you can do a hard reset by holding down the front power button for 10 seconds or so whilst the device is in standby mode.

There should be a grace period. Becoming faulty one day out of warranty doesn't look good for them.

I have been reading on a US playstation forum and there appear to be quite a few people who have had problems just outside warranty with no grace from Sony!!!

I will try but of course it is an 0870 number so it will probably cost me a fortune to get through to them as usual with these kind of things.

yes im afraid you will have to call the 0870 number. just make something up like it was bought in december or something. do not tell them its one day out of warranty!

Warranty means nothing, take it back to the shop that sold it.

Thanks everyone for the helpful ideas I will try Sony tomorrow when I can use the non 0870 number and see if they will deal with it or transfer me. If no luck then I will do the continuous play option.
