So my contract runs out on my phone in a month at last! I've been stuck with possibly the worst phone EVER created! It's caused me so much stress in my life because it's so cr*p!. It's the LG Viewty…

It's caused me so much stress in my life because it's so cr*p!. It's the LG Viewty by the way...
It's going against a wall at 80mph when the contract runs out lol.

I really like the look of the Satio, and i've always loved sony ericsson's. So it's tempting.
Does anyone have this little 12.1 mega pixle phone yet? And if so... Is it any good?

I would also like the ever trendy and popular iphone but I refuse to sign my life away to the terrible tariffs and ridiculas 18 - 24 month contracts! Are they really worth it?

The LG Viewty will survive being thrown at the wall i had dropped/chucked mine so many times it was unbelievable; thats the only good thing that i can say about it though; its durability. Horrible phone i only lasted 3months with it. :?

I personally would not get an iphone. = Overrated. (in my opinion)
#4
Instead of smashing your LG I'll give you £2 for it.
#5
have you seen it in the flesh yet? imo its ugly really bulky and the guy in the phone shop said the camera aint that great :whistling:

i'm in the same situation, can upgrade at begining of november and dont know what to go for. Got an SE C902 at moment and its a great phone and ive always liked sony ericssons but as much as the spec looks good on the Satio it does look a bit ugly and bulky imo. Not sure when the iphone wil be available on Orange but monthly cost is likely to go up a lot if I go for an iphone.

Anyone know much about other smart phones. BlackBerrys, Samsungs, HTC etc. or is the iphone still the best?

The camera will probably be decent as phone cameras go, but you're unlikley to see any difference from say a 5mp camera phone. Unless of course you intend putting them on A1 sheets of paper or the like....

The other downside is that although 12mp camera on a phone sounds good, it doesn't come with anywhere near the number of features you'd get on a 12mp camera, and in this respect is again comparable to a 5mp camera phone....

how is a 5mp camera phone comparable to a 12mp camera phone? just because the 12mp doesnt have the features of a proper camera.....surely the 5mp doesnt either?

+1

The 12mp camera on the Satio is likely to be the best camera available on a phone.

Good in depth review of the Satio here...

I spoke to one of the guys at carphonewarehouse last week and he said the phone is very laggy and has an unresponsive touch screen. Does look pretty though!

Thank you to everone for the help. I think the camera should be really good on them.
over the years i've had the 2mp and then the 3.2mp sony ericssons. The quality of both cameras were superb compared to my 5mp viewty by far! The only thing I actually like about the viewty is the dvd quality recording! But that is it lol.

Someone said about vodafone and orange getting the iphone in the new year. So is it worth holding on to see what decent deals they offer! Keep an eye on HUKD over the next few months ay? haha.:-D

Well i'm defo's gonna ask for a demostration of the Satio before I buy. I don't wanna be pushed into a Viewty situation again lol :x

Thank you again for the kind feedbck everyone

I've got one, had it for 2 days on a contract with Vodafone and really like it.
Comes with a 8gb Memory stick which is enough for me for a few episodes of my tv shows and a bit of music.

The screen is lush, videos look really good on it (theres some advert -type videos on the phone when you get it and they look great quality wise) like the ipod touch it flips the screen if you hold it horizontally.

The Camera is really nice, has a lens cover which I like, can't stand camera lens to be exposed even on phones, theres alot more options than your standard camera phone.
Here's most of the features:
Scenes: Portait, Landscape, Twilight portrait, Twilight Landscape, Beach/snow. sports, document, Auto
Shoot mode: Normal, panorama, best pic (v useful for fast moving pic taking), smile detection, touch capture
Flash: Proper flash not LED - Red eye reduction, Auto flash, No Flash
Exposure (a slider lets you chose from -2.0 to +2.0)
And the bottom option 'Auto mode on/off'

Self timer: Off, 2s, 10s
Focus: Auto, Infinite, Macro, Face Detection
White balance: auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy
Image Stabiliser
Effects: Negative, Solarise, Sepia, Black & white
Shutter sound (4 diff shutter noises and off)

Picture size/Ratio: 2Mp 16:9, 5Mp 4:3, 9Mp 16:9, 10Mp 3:2, 12 Mp 4:3

Video settings:
Self timer: Off, 2s, 10s
Video format: VGA (680 x 480), QVGA (320x240), For picture message
White balance: auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy
Image Stabiliser
Effects: Negative, Solarise, Sepia, Black & white

Other:
Auto review: On/Off
Bestpic speed: Slow, Fast
Geotag: Off/On
Auto Rotate: On/Off
Reset (Default settings)

The phones right side (when holding it portrait) is where the camera buttons are including a dedicated shutter button, album viewer button, Video/picture mode switch button, Zoom in/out buttons (Digital zoom only unfortunately)

I really love how the phone looks personally, very shiny and cool looking. Went for black as I prefer it to silver but would like to see what a white version looks like.

The only complaint I have with this phone is that there is no 3.5mm audio port, they've included an adaptor instead as per usual with SE phones.

The hold/lock slider on the side of the phone is certainly useful.

I thought I'd miss a keypad/slide out qwerty keyboard but the onscreen choices (mini qwerty, alphanumeric pad, fullscreen qwerty) all work well, I can type out texts with ease on the full screen qwerty board. Not tried out handwriting recognition yet.

The GPRS and google maps app work pretty efficiently. Tracked me reasonably well while I was on the bus, will certainly come in handy.

Haven't tried out Track ID (spotify clone?) so can't comment on that.

The media player (Video/music/images) works great, unfortunately it doesn't play DivX so I had to convert my divx videos to MP4 but once that was done it worked a treat.

Instead of a inbuilt stylus slot they've opted for an attachable stylus lid (attached like a lanyard would attach to a camera) and the mini stylus clicks into and out of the lid when you want to use it.

Internet browsing worked fine, not tried connecting to wireless yet just 3G and it was reasonably fast and browsing was hasslefree.

Not tried downloading anything from Playnow Arena yet as alot of the apps are hideously expensive. downloaded some free games/apps but most of them are for older SE phones I think as they come up on the screen absolutely tiny. So will be a little while til we get a decent number of dedicated Satio applications that take advantage of the screen size.

Another feature I haven't tried yet is the Phone-TV cable included in the box for watching movies/tv progs on your phones memory on the tv I assume.

I definately reccomend this phone :) And don't let the idiots saying the camera isn't gonna be that great mislead you.

All phone cameras suck, also the megapixels means absolutely nothing anyway.

What a load of ********. Camera phones may not be as good quality as some of the high quality digital cameras out there but they certainly dont' suck now.

Also while they do tend to put too much emphasis on the MP when theres more to do with the quality of the camera than just that, to say they mean 'absolutely nothing' is mentally retarded, the megapixel certainly does have some effect on the quality of the pictures, unless of course you're trying to tell me an old 1.3mp camera and a 12mp camera will have the same quality of pictures?

I found the phone a bit laggy - the whole OS feels a bit cheap compared to Android and iPhone.

Camera was good, probably the best I've used on a phone but I've never been a massive fan of cameras on phones.

Felt solid, but boring.

I have the w995 and think it's the best sony ericsson yet, do like the design of the saito but am not a fan of touch screens tbh
