Sony K810i - Bought from eBay, can't make calls?

I bought a Sony Ericsson K810i from eBay recently, it's supposed to be unlocked. When I put an o2 sim in it, it says Inactive Sim, when I use a Vodafone or Orange sim, the phone symbol at the top of the display has a line through it and I can't make calls or send texts. I have a feeling this means the phone is stolen! Anyone got any other ideas?

Ring up your provider, they should be able to tell you if it's been blocked - tell them the IMEI number which should be printed under the battery cover underneath the battery.

I did think that. I've had my money back from ebay, so I'm not complaining. Is there anything I can do with the phone other than throw it away?

Only the registered owner can get the blacklisting lifted, so you might as well bin it or call the network that's blacklisted it and see if they want to get it picked up.

Hey mate,

If your going to throw it away, could you instead send it to me as it could be of help?

I'd pay for postage (of course) and a little extra if you want? Get back to me soon mate.

Thanks,
Redeemed.

EDIT: Messege me instead of posting as i'd forget to check :P

Will only work abroad and editing the IMEI is against the law

how did you get your money back?

The seller refused to refund me so I opened SNAD and ebay refunded me. I suppose they will now chase the seller.

If it turns out to be stolen surely the right thing to do is take it to the Police.

Resell it on ebay...

only joking.... sell it for spares...

You need to get the network provider to confirm its stolen, if so, they will tell you what to do with it as it may be now owned by an insurance company who have paid the insured out for it..

If you do resell it, you could be charged for handling stolen goods if your aware it was stolen of think it is.

I don't think the recycle places will take stolen phones either! I do try to be honest, so I'll take it to the police and see what they say.
