Hello All

Ive recently been looking at buying a Blu-Ray player and a Freeview recorder but cant decide but suddenly realised they PS3 could nail both of these right? Blu ray playback out of the box and Play TV would act as a PVR is this right? I have a Xbox and pretty sure ill stick to the Xbox for gaming, Am i right?
And more importantly is there any deals out there?

Humax PVR and a Sony 360 would be a lot better for the same price, if you're really not bothered about gaming.

Not sure why you would buy something for its secondary purposes, rather than a 'market leading' brand for the things you actually want to do?

well you had the comet deal a few days ago - that even has a few games to boot. Still on but not the best of deals now that you cant use any vouchers though.

Don't forget you can also stream movies, music and photos from your computer via a home network as well. It will pick up on media player.
I can now watch all my films via hdmi and the ps3!!

Definitely get a PS3, it's not just a great entertainment console, it's also the best for gaming too
And get the Comet deal, which includes PlayTV in the deal

I see what your saying but im seeing it more as a option that does both, I was looking at buying a Humax unit which i posted as a deal £117, Then means i need Blu ray on top say another £100ish and then means the same price "roughly" but one standalone. Dont get me wrong i understand its usually buying seperate standalones but with iPlayer, Streaming and the other options the PS3 makes sense right?

PS3 - £250
Play TV - £60

Humax 9150 - £115
Samsung BDP1600 - £115
WDTV mini - £50

£30 cheaper and will do all of those things, i always think a stand alone player/box will do a job better than something that does lots of different things

Again, only if you're not bothered about gaming with it

It is a great deal but the price is a little too high, Im hoping to not hit £250 as its a gift and ill be putting the majority towards!
If i could afford the initial cost i would and sell on the un-needed bits

If you sell all the bits from the Comet deal then you would be getting the best current PS3 and for under £200 :)

Sooo right but as i say its the initial cost thats the issues, I had a 10% voucher i used today but doesnt appear online anyway. If i can convince this with the missus it would definetly be an option thats a bif "if"

Thanks guys rep to both for your inputs
