Or is this, say, a better option?

Thanks again folks.

DO NOT BUY LENOVO! Our college uses them and they are shockingly bad.

With ref to the Vaio it depends what you want to use it for.

If you want a gaming PC you might want a laptop with more ram. Other than that it looks great for the price.

Brands to avoid are: Acer, Dell, Packard Bell and any brands you've not heard of normally means there naff.

Good brands: Sony, Toshiba, HP aren't too bad either.

Why not get the Vaio off play.com. £429 or £410 with 5% code :)

Because she can get the Vaio for £376 with her staff discount from Tesco!

Thanks. I looked at the Toshiba and HP ones as well as a fujitsu but did a little bit of digging and wondered if worth paying that wee bit more. Seemed Toshiba and Sony were getting the best reviews.

This was my starting point

Then thought maybe the Sony.

I know, I'm so not up on the techie stuff, it's embarassing. Much appreciate the help from you guys on HUKD though (rep added).

Avoid Dell? Why? :?

I've had 2 vaio's, and would never ever get another one... big, bulky things.
Much prefer Dell and HP.

I'm using this model VAIO right now and I think it's great. I don't know what your priorities are but for me, I'm very satisfied. It won't be futursafe but if you're after a speedy, silent machine with a great feel and build I'd say you can't go wrong. I've not attempted to play games on it yet but no problems as far as downloading, watching DVDs etc.

I paid a lot less (another story) so unsure what I'd do in your position at this cost as I know there is a lot of competition around this price range.
