You will definately get to drive or I'd want my money back!

From what I can remember you will be driven somewhere super quiet to have a go yourself-learn by doing! Remember it is very unlikely you will be the worst driver they've ever come across!!

You will be learning controls mostly but certainly driving, just prob not on main roads! Although your instructor will have brake controls too so can correct your mistakes if needs to.

I would advise you to take your theory soon if you havent yet, they are due to change it anytime to a harder test, and you can't take your practical until you have your theory-can hold you back from the actual test if you're not careful and get it early.

Plenty of wesites to help you practise theory& hazard perception questions or can buy cd roms cheap.

good luck!!

i have a theory cd rom and im getting roughly 40 right so im not far off from being ready for it. would it change in april? if so i think i will have it done by then

Make sure you enjoy yourself, I'm a fair way through my lessons and should be taking the practical come Febuary. I still get really nervous before a lesson though, annoying but nothing I can do. I really enjoy it when out on the road though.

i passed my theory test with flying colours its not hard you just need to read the high way code its that simple ... ive just booked my 1st driving test early in the new year cant wait .. yr 1st lesson they tell you what to do so dont be nevous no need to be i think every body thinks they are going to be the worlds worst driver lol u be ok i wish you luck and look forward to it .. i do rem my 1st lesson my inst got out a round tray from out of no where ?? to show me how to turn the wheel .. why didnt he just use the steering wheel ? you do get to drive but time flys so quickly theres so much to take in good luck!

im not really nervous im just so excited. ive been wanting to learn for years but couldnt afford it so im just excited its finally happening. i have a rough idea on how to do certain things so i dont think i will be the worst driver, but suppose i will soon find out if im wrong

my first driving lesson was a nightmare, the chap threw me the keys and said 'drive'. I started driving and he said to carry on until he said otherwise, I kept driving for ages and looked at him-fast asleep.
I ended up driving 25 miles from home.
We evenually got home after 2 hours and he tried to charge me for a double lesson, I never went with him again.

i did a short survey thing on internet and it said 35-40 for me, all depends on your co ordination and nervousness and age and experience. the survey is on surepass site. im not going with them for my lessons though im going through a local independant instructor

I'm thinking about starting lessons in the New Year, biggest regret I have is not learning to drive. How many lessons do you need on average?:?

are you male or female?

How much you paying for an hours lesson then ?, mine is currently £22 ! He's a nice bloke and good instructor though.

 @ this thread
Skusey, I can just imagine you gripping the wheel peering straight ahead and not noticing. hehe.
How many lessons? I think about 30 is the average from when my sons were learning - obviously I can't remember as far back as mine - but less if you can get out practising with some-one.
are you male or female?
- less for female!
Good Luck

£19 a lesson or £180 for 10. i will be taking 2 hour lessons though so i will get 5 instead of 10

lol, female, i looked on one website and it said so many lessons for every year of your life. I'm 34, I'd be better off waiting for my free bus pass,lol:-D

my sister was about 30 when she did her lessons and passed first time after about 10 minths of lessons, she didnt need all those lessons though but she was so scared to put in for her test so she did loads of lessons. youll be fine, go for it

The rule of thumb for number of lessons used to be your age plus 5
e.g.
aged 17 = 17 + 5 = 22 lessons
aged 30 = 30 + 5 = 35 lessons

Just for you ......................OP , I have a free AA driving lesson voucher .Valid till 31st March 2009 .I joined the AA car insurance and they sent a voucher , I gave it away on hotukdeals a while back , then they sent me another .
No ties , just book your first AA driving lesson , they will add a second for nowt....... say again .....pay for one lesson and they add a second for free. You just hand the voucher in to the instructor as payment for the second tuition hour .
OP has first choice , if not then the first PM to arrive .

I think you would get on quicker with two one hour lessons a week rather than one 2 hr one.

thats really nice of you, if i hadnt already booked my lessons i would have taken your hand off for it, but i would only end up confused and probablies so would my instructor, wondering how i knew how to do certain things so i will pass on it and let someone else get good use from it. thanks again though i really appreciate it and its so kind of you to offer

i work in a care home and my hours are everywhere, its going to be hard enough to find the time to do one lesson a week never mind two, i can see where your coming from though.
