Sore Throat Help

I have a massive sore throat. Feels like I am swallowing a ball when I swallow. Tried paracetamol and it hasn't helped. Anyone got any good ideas that work well to numb the pain

go to the doctor, there are some really nasty throat infections doing the rounds that need antibiotics, all our family have needed them this year and we are very rarely ill

that numbing throat spray works for me, think its chloraseptic or something, as wll as lots of hot drinks like shauneco suggested honey and lemon is good, or honey and blackcurrant juice warm too, get well soon x

I get them all the time, there are three things you can do to help them go away, and three things only, these are:

1. rest
2. drink LOTS of water
3. throatsweets

Went to docs today and got antibiotic. Was up during night eating ice cream to numb pain (thats my excuse and im sticking to it lol) :)

Gargle with aspirin. Get your OH or friend to check your throat and if it is red with white spots then you are likely to have tonsilitis and will need to go to the doc's

Have a look in your throat to see if there are any patches of white coating around + if you have any swellings on your throat / jawline. Is the pain confined to one side of the throat or all over ?

If you do you may have tonsilitis so get to a doctor asap ... I only mention this as the last time I had a really bad sore throat (like swallowing glass) that wouldn't shift it was this & it developed into quinsy !!

Luke-warm water + a tsp of salt. GURGLE! The best treatment ever, also good if your gums are sore. As someone mentioned above though, see a doctor if it's been going on for a while, especially if white bits appear on your tonsils.

Get well soon!

Yes, gargle with soluble/dispersible aspirin (about 12p from Tesco), in warm water.

Gargle with soluble aspirin and also get a throat spray from the pharmacy. Thats what i sell to customers with sore throats.

tonsilitis?
see if there are two large swellings on both sides, at the back of your throat ... look like spotted white stuff on it.
