It could be a line problem, In most cases if its a fault with your line then BT etc should fix it for nowt, But if it turns out to be a hardware problem (So your fault) they'll charge you a call out and per hour fee.

Its best to ring and ask though.
#13
Oh by your speedtest result it looks like Toucan is just a reseller of Tiscali.
#14
just a quick one.......working within the bt realm i would do a manual line test youself 17070 (if its a bt line..this will automaticaly reset your line for you with the right option)
#15
give this one a whirl it was the one i was looking for originally sorry, was just trying to respond quickly

Will it? Thats news to me, the only options you get without a ein is apply cpi tone, line test, ringback line test and quiet line test. Non of which will do anything for your broadband.

There appears to be a Network wide problem especially with BT (and resellers) do a test here but make sure the port 80 box is ticked (that will give you an accurate web browsing speed).
#18
fast test should do it
#19
No it wont, it will check for a fault on your line at best

Im with BT and i have no problems with the service im 2.3miles from my local exchange and things are fine.........as for the line test this will basically shunt the line card back in the exchange......does it work well it depends whots causing the problem......:?
#21
You need to dial it from your landline, why you would want to if you don't suspect a fault on your lne is beyond me. It WILL NOT do anything for your broadband speed.

Where do you get this very inaccurate info?
#23
Ooooh, I've just been reading this thread as I'm having major speed issues with my line, tried the 17070 thing, selected the fast test and it said if you are authorised to access this, press 1 - if not hang up.

So, pressed 1, cause I'm naughty  , but it started going on to a whole load of different options and talking about copper lines and other things....

If anyone else has tried this, did you get all this copper line stuff and what options did you select after fast test? Or maybe you all behaved and hung up when it told you to do if you weren't authorised....:giggle:
#24
Ummmmm well looks like BT have changed the options used to do 17070 then 3 then 1 for copper tests......now its asking for my works mobile and bt pin number which of course i couldnt give out ): ummmmmm il see if thers a way round it........

Feel free to pop round and call from my phone and enter your details there...:giggle:

17070 then 3122 for ringback line test, it won't do anything for your broadband speed, it will tell you if you have a fault on your line, earth, battery, rectified loop. If your number is withheld automatically dial 1470 before the call.

I got all that, guessed my way through loads of options but at the end when I pressed for the result it just told me the line was busy

Option 3, 1, 5 is for dsl test now but still trying to find a pin u can use:whistling:

Do the ringback line test, otherwise it's testing against your phone being in use.
