Sound help on a laptop?

Went to use my newer laptop last night, and no sound was working at all. Tried different sites and zilch.

Its one of those where you touch the bar to alter the sound or to mute it.

Any help would be appreciated.

There is a volume control on the bottom right of your screen
you can go into there and see volume sliders for stuff

turn them all up, should fix it

is other sound working? play a youtube? im asking as you mention you cant hear the other side of a video conversation, and need to check if its your end first

It is my end, no youtube, no nothing. No icon right side, as i say its on the keyboard where i touch and drag to turn up, or down, or tap to mute. How do i get in my sounds otherwise?

via start - control panel

and sound devices or volume in there

(it helps to do it the manual way vs the ones on the keyboard sometimes)

make sure mute isnt ticked

Make sure none of the mute boxes are ticked.

I f still not working, check device manager for any problems.

If STILL not working, do a restart.

That should solve it

you wont lose anything with a system restore, documents stay,

lets see if we can find it anway

go to start - all programs - accesories - system tools

and system restore is what you are looking for, it might be in the same place in vista, so look around for it

when you find it, click it, and up comes a calendar which you can go back several days and pick a recent day when you knew it was working

click that, and then it will be simpley reading the info, and letting it restart for you

this might help for vista

my guide was more to do with xp, and hoped vista is the same, seems it isnt! :(
