:w00t: I wouldnt bother giving my MIL a parachute, she would probably bounce anyway

Don't see what's wrong with requesting a parachute tbh, presume it was to play games with.

I used to use one when i did circus workshops

Never had anything weird here, just PS3, caravan, Windows 7, etc. etc.

there was last month round our area offering herself as a date!!

unsure if it was bs, but she got taken up on the offer.....

Does it matter though? If you wanted to make money out of it then you could do a car boot yourself.

I'm happy if someone wants to pick up my crap and sell it that's fine by me :-D

There should be a points and feedback system. Reward the people who share more by prioritising their requests.

theres no way id use a pre-owned parachute. we've all bought a used item off ebay that didnt work when we got it.......imagine that with a parachute!

I agree,i don't understand people who would rather throw things away if somebody else will take the time and trouble to Carboot/Ebay it etc.

I'd rather someone make money if i can't be bothered and it doesn't go to landfill.

ive given loads of stuff away on there. id say at least £60 worth of stuff. in return ive recieved a 500gb hard disk and hopefully a dartboard....

like other people have said, if you cant be bothered to list on here/ebay then freecycle it. fair play to people who flog it on etc....i shall only be doing the same when the 500gb hard is NLR then again i may give it away!!

Being that they are designed to slow you down when falling from a great height, why persume they want it for a different purpose :?

I guess it's just against the "spirit" of the site though it is an inevitability. Ideally you'd rather see the item you're giving away go to someone who will use it themselves or really need it rather than chancers and wheeler dealers.

im a mod on freecycle and a feedback system is being looked at,

I reject loads of crazy wanteds every day. from a guy who wanted a flatscreen tv (preferably with bluray player / ps3) to someone looking for a peice of land to burn waste on!!!

Indeed, but it doesn't stop me giving stuff away on there,it's difficult to tell if someone genuinely wants your stuff or wants to sell it though.

I must admit i do sometimes respond to posts if i think i can make a quid or 2

But i think theres a big difference between asking for something thats being offered and placing a wanted ad for something that has a sizable value to most people

That's where a feedback system comes in. You would see what items the hopeful recipient has had in the past and given away too.

High value luxury items should be banned from requests too.

Don't you think someone may actually need that item you want to profit on and that the person giving the item away would want that too?

Drifting back to original post for a min
i asked why they wanted a parachute and got this reply
"Its for a fundraising gig to create a chilled out atmosphere."

I would have put my money on it being for some form of entertainment/kids party type thing.

Because it's more logical?

You may jest but two weeks ago someone on my local freecycle list did indeed give away their static caravan + plot to keep it on.

Suppose that makes sense really, as its the start of the season so whoever was giving it away was saving themselves the site fee etc, and if it was'nt worth much anyway that is the best thing to do.

I personally reckon high value wanteds should certainly be limited, but not altogether banned.

Just checked the inbox and there was 1 waitng for approval, " Wanted, A nintendo DS, must be in full working order"

I would ban that user. Fair enough if he was looking for a faulty one for a spare screen or something but stipulating full working order is taking the mike.

In fact I'd be tempted to respond saying I have one then when they arrive tell them I don't have one really. hopefully they'll have travelled miles too.

Someone posted once saying they were looking for a digital camera to give to a friend as a present
i emailed them saying try looking in a shop

I can't repeat what they answered me here :w00t:

Do you still have the email? PM me the content if you do, sounds like it will be amusing.

I am amazed at what people will come and collect, since I first used freecycle I must have saved about 30 trips to the tip, and I couldn't care less if people keep the stuff or sell it on, If I could be bothered to sell I would.

The greedy wanted ads seem to have vanished since we gained a new mod, the cheekiest was someone repeatedly asking for cars with full MOT and a years tax.

I thinks it deleted, but don't encourage me, i got banned from the Bristol one for winding someone up

There should be a website for naming and shaming these jokers. People could post the adverts, correspondence, photos of them etc. Could have email exchanges of wind ups like the nigerian scammer sites.

Some mods are more strict than others, i know some who just click throu the posts nd approve everything whereas i check the ad, their history and location, i dont allow wanted ads from other areas, i moderate wolverhamptons boards, and reguarly see someone from say, birmingham, who has posted the same wanted on wolverhampton, walsall, stafford birmingham coventry and others.

Ive had a guy keep submitting ads for a new van that he needs for work.

I also get a fair few asking for scrap metal etc

To be fair I would take a working parachute off anyone's hands (they are expensive) and I enjoy jumping. *however people are likely to sell them due to their cost and usually not off ebay*
