Speaker of the House

Just read on Teletext that the Speaker of the House has claimed £700,00 of tax payers money to refurbish his home. £150k on furniture, £190k on air conditioning, £13k on art & over £300k on building refurbishments. This government is a joke!! Whilst we all struggle to pay the monthly bills, these corrupt political parasites just take the proverbial p*ss! I expect the Police will look into this, find he's a personal friend of the Commissioner and drop the case - after spending £10 million on the investigation of course.

What's wrong with MPs lining their pockets. What other reason would they have for undertaking such an arduous job? :whistling:

He is also spending 100K of our money taking a case to court to stop MPs having to reveal their expenses!

This government is by far the sleasiest in history and thats saying something. Cant wait until 2010 when they will get booted out!

Great they'd be out in a jiffy if half the country weren't effin lazy sods who wouldn't even bother to take 5 mins to turn up at a polling station and vote. PPL in other parts of the world die trying to get democracy and here we just shrug our shoulders and head to the pub for a pint instead. We're all being purposely de-politicised so greedy little politicians can do whatever they want. Keep dozing Britain...

The problem is he's probably not done anything wrong by doing this with the present rules. Clearly the system needs to change.

legally, nothing wrong. Morally, the reverse is true.

Bear in mind that it is not his house. It is apartments in the Palace of Westminster that he moves out of when he vacates the position of Speaker...

I think you mean £1,000,000 an hour, not per day.

The budget deficit is forecast to be £42BN for 07/08 which works out at £5,000,000 per hour! So on top of the tax income, this government still need to borrow on our behalf £1500 for each and every tax payer in this country!

That is beside the point! £192,000 just for air-conditioning is not a good use of public funds. £700,000 is more than a lot of people earn in a lifetime!

Also £992,000 was spent on the garden & security system!
