Specislist car Insurance - wheelchair adapted car / old driver ??

trying to shop around for car insurance for my Dad#

He has a Peugeot Partner which has been professionally adaptred to car a wheelchair passenger by Allied Vehicles.

Also dad is 78

the main problem is getting any insurance broker to deal with the car because it is "modified"

So does anyone here have a WAV - wheelchair adapted vehicle?

Who do you insure with?

Currently we use fish Insurance is Preston but the renewal premium seems very high this year and I was wanted to shop around.

TIA

would motability be able to help you?

No - sorry been there

the car is used to take my Mother out (she is in the wheelchair) but does no qualify for any Motobility benefits - we have to pay for eeverything iurselves !

thanks for the idea however

All motability cars are insured through Royal Sun Alliance so they at least have experience with insuring modified cars. Even though yours isn't a motability car they should still insure you or at least give you a quote.

RSA consumer arm is Morethan

just tried them and they want £150 more than Fish and that is for a standard non modified car !

thanks for the lead however

if your mum is in a wheelchair she needs to seek advice if she doesnt get DLA as it would seem to me she clearly should

Try the disability forum on moneysavingexpert.com LINK HERE
there's loads of info on there and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people in the same boat who will have a better idea of where to go / who to deal with :)

thanks for all the leads folks

mother is actually in a care home so get attendance allowance and nursing care allowance and in theory we could get a motability car although she still has to pay all her fees due to having too much savings !!!

We did enquire about Motability but then she would loose other benefits that all amke up her income and my dad could only use the car when Mum was with him or if he was doing direct errands for Mum. Her would not be allowed to use it for his own use and he still wants a car !

So not so easy unless we pay for everything ourselves - as per usual with this country !

Saga would seem to be worth a try.

Good luck.

Your information on Motability is wrong

The car is for the benefit of the disabled person, not for the specific use of the disabled person

Your situation is complicated by the fact you need a WAV (Motability may help with a grant towards adaptations) and that your mother is in a care home.
