Aberdeenshire Speed Camera Location

.
Nearest Town/village: Aberdeen
Road Name: A96
Direction of Camera: East and Westbound
Speed Limit: 30mph and 40mph
Speed Camera Details: Main route to airport and north of city, two speed cameras in each direction. As this is dual carriageway there is a temptation to exceed limits.
Ref. #: SCAB007

he wont get done as it was the opposite side of the road.

Mind you, I hope he does get caught as 60 in a 40 is just plain dangerous.

3 points and around £120 fine
#7
Lets hope he/she gets caught and the right action taken against him/her.

Next you will be saying he/she was pulled over and breathalised and was over the limit, but all they were doing was having a Christmas drink and only had a pint.

If you had to ask, I think you should have left the speed out of the thread.
#8
If the camera was the other side of the road, no action will be taken. The speed triggered the camera off, but you'll get away with it

From reading that I assume there's more than 1 camera, if that is the case he won't know which one flashed unless he was looking directly at it. Even then a flash in your rear view mirror often appears to be coming from the front.

hopefully it caught him.

I second that,

If it was 45 in a 40 then I'd be a little sympathetic but 20 MPH over the limit is just taking the p***, Throw the book at him.
#12
Many people see this and think they have been flashed ,Usually it is just the reflection of headlights passing that looks like a flash ,Some camereas face the towards you from the front but these use an infrared light instead of a flash so you wont see a flash anyway,
#13
Dont worry, you wont get caught and I regularly go past the camera your talking about and it's an old style Gatso like most of the camera's in Scotland. Some excellent 'holier than thou' comments though, well done to all the daily mail readers who have never sped in their lives.

Even if you did, your looking at 3 points and a £60 fine at the worst which is hardly the end of the world.
#14
20 over is very bad, 30 over any speed limit is an immediate ban, if it's a copper that catches you going 30 over any speed limit they take the keys off you there and then!

we're not talking 90 on a motorway here. 60mph on a residential road is just asking to kill someone eventually. ITS NOT ON! :whistling:

Dunno what the daily mail has to do with it either
#16
This camera does it all the time, my dad and me purposly go fast past it fast on the opposite side to make it flash, It won't affect him. x

Its actually a dual carriage way and just at the bit he was doing 60 it turns in to 70 so im guessing he was doing what 90% of us do and speed up to the 70.

well thats a whole different scenario. doubt it would be allowed for them to place a speed camera right on where it goes from 40 to 70 :w00t:

its odd how there is a camera on the other side of the road then as that should logically be a 70 to 40 restriction.

The one that flashed, goes in to a 40 and a bout a 100 yards after the 40 sign there is were the speed camera is. It catches people all the time.

Hopefully one day you and your dad will crash into each other while speeding past a camera on purpose and they'll be two less knob jockeys on the road!
#21
It's not a residential road, the camera is on a dual carriageway on a speed reduction from 70 to a 40 - he was on the other side of the road where the speed increases from a 40 to a 70. He's just doing what pretty much everyone does and is accelerating into the speed change.

Presumably you've never done any speeding?

Thats nothing there was a camera in Leeds where the start of the lines was in a 60 and in ended in a 70 after the sign. Speed cameras should be outside scchools, hospitals etc, not dual carridgeays where as the description says there is a temptation to speed.

OMG serious hate, all it takes is for you to go 45 on the opposite side of the road which is what most people are doing to speed up to the 70 for it to flash.

theres temptation for a lot of things but that dont mean we do them all ... speed kills fact

maybe you want to try watching this before you speed for a thrill just to get a flash

Speed doesn't kill its the idiot behind the wheel who cannot drive that kills. If speed kills then there would be a lot more deaths on the road.I have been done for speeding 3 times whilst driving but have never killed anyone so thats your argument out of the bin. Bad drivers need to be taken off the road like these morans on the reality can't drive programs but we will reward them. They are more of a danger, I drive to the conditions and adjust my speed appropriately.

Yeah and so does so much in this world like smoking, guns, knifes, war but it all still happens. No one is ever perfect and one one can say they have never ever speed as it is just rubbish.

Indeed, speed does kill - accelerating into a speed change on the opposite side of the road from a speed camera does not. Too quick to judge without knowing the facts I think, I know the camera, so do a few other people and they've explained.

Maybe if the OP had described the situation properly, then we wouldn't be having this discussion :whistling:

Quite a few people with the classic 'holier than thou' attitude I think, everyone speeds at some point whether that be because it's intentional or not. The OP should not have mentioned his speed, it would have been easier ;)

I've just got rid of 3 points myself after coming off a 70 down to a 60, I was clocked doing 67 at the exact point the dual carriage-way ended. 3 Points and £60, no great shakes but frustrating given the situation and when the local nutcases in town drive like maniacs.

Money making scheme IMO, even the local speed cops admit that - the money from cameras does not go back into improving roads or introducing road safety schemes - which is where it should go.

but if the OP had described it fully the first time rather than just 'caught doing 60 in a 40' then nobody would have the 'holier than thou' attitude. I think you're being a little harsh. :)

Yes I do speed but not 60 in a 40 (unless approaching a 60/70 ;-))

that is outrageous! They must make a fortune from that. They'd probably do you for careless driving if you started braking to get down to the 60 once you spotted the sign! ;-)

I was a little peeved at the time, but was heading out of the country for 4 months so had to cough up. Otherwise I'd have challenged it, it was a mobile camera by the way - which are even worse IMO. Do everyone a favour - if you see these things, flash to alert other drivers.

i just hope you never lose anyone to a speeding driver then you will see that your 2 minutes of fun getting a flash is infact not so much fun after all

speeding and looking at the camera on the other side of the road to see if it flashes you mean ... taking your eyes away from where they should be

I do not speed in 20 or 30 i only do it on that road because it is going up to a 70 sign like you will see most drivers doing. Its not just speeding that kills if people are to cautious then you will find there are what cause accidents as well.
#37
Not really, the OP didn't intentionally do it and is now asking what the consequences are, and he wasnt neccesarily looking elsewhere. Agin, too quick to judge me thinks.

You have no idea what your speaking about you don't need to take your eyes of the road to see a camera flash or do you not drive. its obvious when a camera flashes you don't need to be looking at it.

Then dont quote me when I'm taking about the OP then?

I take it you've never looked away from the road when driving, ever?
