How is it possible that some people seem to be doing 70mph in between the average speed cameras on the motorway?

Also, people are driving at 80-90 through the new 4 lane M1 motorway at Luton - are those cameras de-activated when there is no variable speed limit imposed?

Thank god I don't live in london.

Same thoughts about the Average Cams on the long stretch of M4 around Newport. When I'm glued to 50mph, why do people go past you doing at least 70mph in other lanes? Are these people getting caught?

something about if the light isnt then the cameras arent working.... but i dont risk it. i do push it..but dont go much more than 10-12mph over.

Seen the M42 variable cameras flashing when the signs are off (i.e normal speed limits)

Have often wondered the same as OP though, they must be either been done or know exactly at what speed they are set, which i assume is at least 8-10mph above the limit being set.

The new 4 lane section has lots of speed camera signs and no cameras, or authority to put VSL or cameras up :D

The Luton section is VSL, and enforced. I think its the VSL is off though, the limit is quite high (like over 80mph). Not sure though.

The 50 limit for roadworks between Bedford and Luton is a nightmare though.

obviously I'm not promoting speeding but its quite strange when you have a huge lorry overtaking you because you're doing 50 in road works.

I think I've crept beyond the speed limit while passing Luton (and not received any points) but I'm not sure about the average speed cameras. Apparently changing lanes confuses the cameras. Not going to try it out tho!

That was true, Not sure if the latest camera's will have that problem though, I wouldn't risk it.

The cameras on the new 4 lane section aren't average speed cameras anyway...

Lot of crims travelling between Luton / London, avoid them they're packing.

i went from m25 to surrey along the m3 roadworks for 2 years well over the average 50mph cameras and only recently got a ticket !

If you change lane a few times its hard for the cameras to keep track of your average

must add the speed limit is there for a reason so stick to it (even at 3am ?)
