Speed Camera's - Confirmation! : )

Hi people,

Anyone know, for 100% FACT, that if there is a road with a spead camera, two lane road each way (four lanes in total, with wee pavement inbetween), and the camera is on the OPPOSITE side of road from car, there are no road markings on my side (does this matter as an extra question btw, lol?), can you be done for speeding, even if it flashes twice?

Was on furthest away lane of the two lanes also, for all the difference that makes.

Pretty confident you can't be done, for invasion of privacy as camera taking pic of face, etc, but once it happens, you always like confirmation, and rather ask than Google, lol!

Cheers! : )

I reckon if you dont have white lines on your road, they dont stand a chance.

And when the fim(in any, sometime they dont have any) goes to the office to be processed, they will have to let you go as you were in a different lane which had nothing to do with a speed camera.

I thought that, but always like to hear others say it too, lol!

Thought some without film used to only flash once?

Either way, thats not my main concern, lol!

You can't be prosecuted if you're not speeding. That's all you need to know.

In your case, no lines means no case. The cameras need a point of reference to compare the two images taken. This is what the lines are for.

Yeah but once I was in a situation like you, were 2 of the lanes had lines and one side lane didnt, yet yes I was going 37 rather than 30 and I did get done for a ticket lol.

But i was on other side of road.

Thought main point was that you can't be prosecuted driving towards 'back' of camera if you like, regardless of lines or not, no?

Did you just pay the fine or did you ask for a copy of the images taken? There must have been enough of the lines in the two shots to calculate your speed. In the case where the camera is in the opposite side of the road and there are no lines in either lane on your side, there's no way you'll be done. You might set the camera off but it's no good to anyone.

Bottom line is they have 14 days to prosecute - if you don't get a letter within this time, you're in the clear.

Well it went like this:

Side Lane 2 MAIN LANES
| - -
| - -
| - -
| - -
| - -
| - -
>=<==Camera was located here

Key:
| = The lane I was on that didnt have speed camera lines
- = The speed camera lines on the two main lanes.

If the camera was one of these

http://news.cnet.com/i/ne/p/2006/monkeyboy_375x500.jpg

and you were flashed driving towards it then you will be ok. I had exactly the same a few years ago and was really worried. I asked a friend who's brother worked in the police and he found out that if the camera does go off, then all it will get is one picture of the back end of the car and one of nothing. The picture has to be taken from behind and with white lines on the road.

So nothing to worry about

Thats wrong. Most of the cameras in use today can indeed take accurate pictures in both directions. They do however, as has been pointed out require the white lines as a reference, and they must as is shown in your picture be fluorescent on both sides of the camera casing.

None of these fixed cameras take a picture of the driver, that only happens with the police roadside vans. The double flash is to provide a distance traveleed in the set time.

Just so you know, you are almost certainly safe, so dont worry about it. But you are talking absolute crap about whether they can take a pic of your face. There are loads of forward facing truvelo cameras!

Speaking of which!

Why should Bikes get away with these... They dont have reg plates on the front of them which is what clocks you with Motorway avg. speed cameras!
