hey

a friend has a speedtouch modem, trying to connect a laptop but its saying theres no driver, now they dont remember if they got a disc when they got it moons ago, can anyone confirm before the hunt for it begins, or can it be downloaded for free? once this is on the laptop it will pick up the speedtouch net connection yes?

also can anyone point me in the right direction to a compatible router to connect the speedtouch so the laptop can be wireless, thank you :):)

Seem to remember Speedtouch modems were sent out by AOL and were made by Thomson, you should find the right driver at - http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/broadband-uk/Pages/home-uk.aspx.

If your friend is with AOL just give them a ring and ask for a wireless router, they usually just send them out.

You cant use a router with a speedtouch modem ,You would have to set up a network through a PC and frankly you are just better off buying a modem / router,As for Driver sorry donyt know,

Lol dont leave me any more rep its starting to look like im a rep junkie.
Most modems now have wireless routers built in,Orange use the livebox but any modern ADSL router will do,Rather than buy just a router when the time comes buy a ADSL router,
until then the drivers you need are here,

Yes this will run on the Lappy

this is the driver for windows98 and XP http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/customer-service/SpeedTouchDocuments/xDSLGA-Wired_Driver_UK_330_301_Win98-XP.exe.zip

and this is the driver for Vista
http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/customer-service/SpeedTouchDocuments/xDSLGA-Wired_Driver_UK_330_41C_WinVista.exe.zip

USb modems are ok for connecting a single PC/laptop but are a pain in the a for a wireless setup,You could ring orange and see if they will send you a livebox but if not just buy a ADSL router,

just the wireless to sort, so the best thing it to use a different modem? can you do that lol, so just unplug the speedtouch, replace with another? or just plug directly ito a router? will a netgear do? thats what i use

Yes a netgear like yours will do as long as it is ADSL ( telephone line) and not a cable ( virgin) one .The speedtouch plugs into usb but the ADSL router / modem plugs into the ethernet socket (same as yours) and doesnt need drivers,

thank you tony, youve been a great help, will give that a go, its orange, which i believe is a phone line

im with virgin and the netgear works 4 me lol
