Hey thar,
Was out in the garden checking on my plants, and came accross a spider, but I thought he was really prety so got my camera out! He's quite big! Just wondering if anyone knows what kind of spider he is, as I'm unsure but I've seen them quite a few times in the garden...

When curled up he'd probably fit on a 10p, though in his normal 'stance' probably about 50p, with his legs out then it goes beyond coinage lol

:w00t::thumbsup::santa: Think its male

Latin name: Araneus quadratus

Size: Females up to 15mms, males up to 8mms.

Distribution: Found throughout the UK.

Months seen: June to October.

Habitat: Found in tall grass, bushes and hedgerows.

Food: Small flying insects.

Special features: This fairly common spider can be found throughout Britain in the summer and autumn months.

The body colour is extremely variable. It can be; yellow green, orange, red or brown. The abdomen has some white patches, but these are only really clear on the brown varieties.

They catch their prey in a web, and the female also builds herself a retreat to the side of the web, made from thick silk.
