Sport Direct.Com no cash refunds ?????????

Was in Sports Direct today when I overheard a customer being told that they do not do cash refunds only vouchers. The customer was returning a faulty product with the receipt the day after it had been bought.
Am I right in saying that they are not allowed to do this as long a there i a valid receipt and within 28day of purchase.
Only wondering as we bought a load of stuff today for xmas and hoping now we don't have to return any of it.

    I've seen the signs up in there saying the same thing.... don't know whether they legally can do it, though.

    I took something back a while ago and discovered that they didn't issue refunds. Don't know why, was just told "that's their policy" ! :x

    Legally, you are normally entitled to a refund if something is faulty.

    I would assume business is bad at Sport Direct (part of the Mike Ashley empire!) and they want you to spend your money with them rather than elsewhere. You could always try arguing though our local shop has a fair amount of "security". :whistling:

    They have to refund by law. The sale of goods act says the item has to be suitable for the purpose it was sold. If an item is faulty then it is not fit for the purpose.

    Yeah thats section 14...does it say there has to be a refund of money though...I couldn't find the section :thinking:

    It depends on why you want to return the goods.

    • If you have changed your mind, then the shop doesn't have to do anything.

    • But if the goods are faulty, incorrectly described or not fit for purpose, then you are entitled to your money back (provided you act quickly), and you certainly don't have to take a credit note

    • If you do accept a credit note in these circumstances, watch out, as there may be restrictions on their use.

    • If the shop displays a sign stating they only give credit notes instead of refunds, they might be breaking the law and you could report them to Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06. Consumers in Northern Ireland should contact Consumer Line on 0845 600 6262.

    Thanks People, I thought the same thing, if it was faulty they have to give you you're money back. I work in retail as well so I thought there was something fishy when I heard.

    yes they do as long as you have a receipt they will refund if you dont you will get credit note/vouchers


    know your statutory rights guys

    some shops do have the right to replace or to fix goods
