Sports Trainers - Help

Not sure whether to put this in deal requests or here, but I'll start here anyway :)

I need a pair of trainers for the gym and I've no idea what I'm looking for, I was using a pair of trainers I got in M&S a few years ago but now I've started taking my gym sessions a bit more seriously there's no support in the shoe and it's starting to hurt...

So what would I be looking for, is there a particular name or type of shoe I need ?

I tend to go on the cross trainer, running machine and bike.

I've found the following does anyone know if these are specifically for sports or just general day wear?

If you are serious about the gym work then you need to get a decent pair of trainers, otherwise you will cause yourself problems later in life. The trouble is now that most trainers are fashion items, & don't give the correct support.

Your best bet (although, sadly, not the cheapest) is to go to a specialist sports shop & get some free but very useful advice. You will end up paying more for the trainers, but at least you will not be ruining your feet, legs, or back. (You shouldn't need to pay any more than £40 for a pair of suitable trainers.)

Any independent sports shop will help you, or you can always look through a running magazine - they generally do very good articles on shoes, & carry loads of adverts for specialist shops.

Once you have found a brand that work for you then it makes buying in the future much easier.

Thankyou :)

No problem - As someone pointed out to me once, you only get one pair of feet, so look after them!

I was reading up on a pair of trainers the other day, Onitsuka running shoes. If you have a pair of trainers that you like, just type the name in to google and then "reviews". It should bring up some forums of people who have them and have used them, and also might compare to others they have tried. If you do more "cross training" then you will need different trainers, but a good pair of running shoes is one of the best investments you will make. Great advice previous posts

Just remembered! - every so often one of the running magazines do a full article on choosing the correct shoe; they start off by asking questions so you can sort out your running style (over pronation, under pronation, etc), then tell you which specific trainers from each of the brands are suitable for you.

Trouble is, I can't remember which of the running magazines or when in the year they publish it, so you may need to look in a couple of magazines then try their websites.
