Squeaking hinge on Brand New Sony Vaio laptop.

I bought an E Series Sony Vaio for £629.99 a few weeks ago and about 5 days later the left hinge started to squeak and feels loose. I emailed them explaining and they asked for pictures, which i provided. They then replied after 1 day with some shocking excuse saying i had damaged it, even though I had barely used it.

Can I use the 30 day refund policy and get my money back/replacement?

Cheers,

Paul.

Why don't you take it to a Sony store? Or wherever you got it from? Sounds like you have a good case.

I bought from Sony Online, so stores won't touch it, I spoke with my local store(Trafford) the other day.

How rubbish is that? They are still the same company....

Might be worth phoning a central customer service department

That's why paying that bit extra for a Mac can be worth it. Buy online, take into any Apple store for repair.

Sony stores are franchised are believe which allows them this excuse of being separate to Sony itself. Considering Sony sell products (at RRP) at a premium like Apple do you'd think they'd have a customer service ecosystem similar to them. Alas Sony don't really care about customers whcih is a shame as they make some good stuff.

Hope you get it fixed. It is the seller's responsibility to repair for the first year (maybe 2yrs with the Sony). Keep at them, don't get angry, record and document all conversations and ask to speak to a supervisor. If you get no luck, ask to speak with their supervisor. You will get there in the end

I'd take it to my nearest store on spec, explain the probelm. I am sure they will be either able to advise on your next steps or try and look at it for you there. In front of a shop full of customers they aren'y going to want to look unhelpful. Even if they look at it and advise you to send it back at least you have a starting point to phone up CS abd tell them a Sony rep has looked at it and advised you to return it.

True about Apple. Used their genius bar with my iPod and they were excellent! Even if it is franchised, they will hopefully stand by the products they sell. Keep at them. You will get there in the end

Same issue here with a sony vaio. They have said it's my fault too. Really annoying!

You gave them pics of a squeaky hinge?

Eventually they backed down and replaced the hinge and fixed a dead pixel as well.

Exactly my thoughts, and I think that is reason why they gave in, in the end. Exactly how could they tell it was my fault through a picture? Ludicrous!
