Stagecoach won't take my wife with a pushchair.

Are they allowed to do that? 4 times over the last 2 weeks they've either refused to take her with the pushchair or haven't stopped when asked, presumably because they've seen the pushchair. Have just called to complain and their offices are shut so I'm calling back in the morning.

Surely it's discrimination? She can't help it if our kid needs a pushchair!

This country really enjoy the Monty Python sketches and Mr. Bean have a laugh jokes in real life! The public loves it when people get silly! How big is the push chair by the way, is it one of those large ones that can be seen from miles? I would write to the senior management team straight away.

if the buses are equipped to take pushchairs/prams/wheelchairs and they don't already have 2 of these loaded already then they should stop and pick up your wife.

see what they say tomorrow when you ring. if you get nowhere with them then ring the local passenger executive (the authority who sort out public transport in your area) and see what they have to say. I know in west yorks its metro and greater manchester its GMPTE.

some coach/bus drivers are little Hitlers.
They think they own the buses

I wonder how women managed in the days before the roll on roll off bus

in Warrington they are all foreign..im not racist btw! daughter uses buses all the time with a pushchair and one driver drove off and she had two wheels on and two off-she screamed-he stopped, but she said they are just ignorant and rude(and she is easygoing and polite!)
I used the bus once to the town and he drove at around 30 around the small roundabouts-almost on two wheels!! so fast i had to grip the pushchair and my son-never again!!!

i folded it-and trust me 2 kids and shopping and a buggy no mean feat! and you would NEVER get anyone help you ever. In contrast Malta on hols and the bus driver got off to help-and the locals took my baby-buggy-and small son-it was easy travelling there(I got them back later:oops:)
Unfortunately people don't help here as a rule:roll:

Thanks for the responses, I'm going to give them a piece of my mind in the morning.

I was there one of the times the bus wouldn't stop and it seemed pretty empty to me.

you wont get anywhere-unfortunately its life! would be better if you got the reg number and make sure she asks for a name next time shes refused?
My 14yearsold daughter got on the wrong bus last week and had no more money for the right one so asked could he refund and he refused-she was stuck at the bus stop upset as she didnt know what to do...they are a disgrace!

I've had three kids, my eldest was born in the days before these busses were on the streets so I know what its like.

Stagecoach and First spent millions brining these busses to their customers and they still don't getthe credit for it. I can honestly say that I've never had a problem with anyone helping me on and off with a buggy and if I've had to fold it people will usually carry it off for me.

I'll agree with you on that one and I don't know if the rules have changed but it used to be that they couldn't refuse a minor travel if it is their mean of getting home.

I'd complain about that one.

she didnt get a name or anything-and she was so upset it took me ages to get the story from her...the bus has the same number both ways! when it got to the roundabout it went to town instead of away.

You obviously haven't dealt with a compaint of mine before then! I'll get someone to take notice otherwise they're gonna have me on their back 24/7.

No time to get reg number, wife too busy getting money ready and waving at bus to write down registration when it goes speeding passed her.

It won't make any difference whether she got a name or not, fact is that it's happening and they're going to do something about it. If they don't do something about it then they're going to be hearing from me a hell of a lot!

If she knows what time it was about and where it was the bus company should be able to find the driver.

That disgusting, let us know how you get on in the morning

Agreed, if they're bothered about the complaint then they'll find who was on that route at that time. If they're not bothered enough to do that then just rip into them.

i agree with you both-and at one time i would have had it out with them-i have bigger battles to fight right now:oops:
last time i tried something like this it was the sorting office as our postie was mixing up everyones mail and i got so fed up with it! they were completely stupid-the manager got me nowhere so now i stick to bigger battles (five kids and grandchildren make sure ive always got one or two to help with:roll:)
Good luck and let us all know the outcome? im sorry for your wife as it is disgusting the way she has been treated!

If it's not a low floor bus with a bar in the middle and the puschair won't fold, you can't really do anything. Obviously if they go past then you need to complain. The law from 2010 is that all buses must be low floor easy access so that will change. (I think)

If it happens again, just note down the fleet number of the bus and ring up. Stagecoach will know exactly who's been driving it through the rosters.

The pushchair folds up quite small so it shouldn't be a problem. Most of the time they just drive passed.

I am the greatest complainer in the world by the way, just ask harlzter.

Get the fleet number, time and location.

They'll know who's doing it, and if it's the same person every time, they can easily take disciplinary action against them.

The reason the companys called Stagecoach is because the're a bunch of cowboys.
On a serious note if the bus had 2 pushchairs on already it's still no excuse for the driver to go past you he should of told you that you had to fold the pushchair up.

Complaint made, have to wait 7 - 10 days for the response.

They said there's no reason why she should be refused or the driver shouldn't stop.

Will see what they say. As long as they pick her up then I'm happy otherwise I've got to do another few hours driving a day!

wait for a response and depending on the outcome tell them thank you or that you're taking it further by complaining to the PTE and I'm sure they will change their tune. The PTE even fine them for the buses being late etc so hopefully they'll be more favourable to you!

If it folds up, then cannot understand why they didnt stop. Maybe she should fold up the pushchair just before the bus arrives as it may have been running late and decided not to stop to wait for her to fold it up etc. I would always help so the person saying nobody ever helps is incorrect.

Try the Argus, they love a juicy local story like this.
