Hi people,

Wondering if someone could help me out with some advice. Been given a question and I'm a little unsure as to how to go about it.

Question "Using the means and standard deviations that you obtained in part (d), calculate by hand the values of the standardized variables for a Mazda 323; a model whose price is $8300, has a 1.6 litre engine, weighs 2325ib, and achieves 29mpg for city driving and 37mpg for highway driving"

The values I got for price in part d were mean 19.510 and the standard deviation was 9.659.

Now my question is that to work out the standardized variables, I would normally calculate the variance of the data set, and not use the standard deviation. DO you think I am supposed to sdimply substitue the variance for the standard deviation? As working out by hand the variance of a dataset with 93 car models would surely be asking way too much.

Sorry for the long post, but any help and advice would be greatly received.

Thanks bossyboots, I probably didn't explain myself too well. Hopefully the answer will come to me overnight, and I can polish it off tomorrow.

I would tell them to shove it and refuse to answer a question that has been written by an American.
lol true, I'm surprised it didn't ask about a muscle car. I should either answer back with some very dry English wit, all go all American on them
