Step Gran - whats the etiquette?

crunchybiscuits Avatar

Okay - long story short - Mr Biscuits is older than me and as a result has a grown up son who's partner is now with child, making him a Grandpa (obviously) I am not thrilled at the prospect of being a Grandma at 32 plus there is already 2 natural Granny's for this little one.

So who am I to this child? Has anyone been in a similar situation or had a grandad who is not with Gran but has a wife? What do you call her? I would be happy just being Auntie Fi...... Like I am to my childminding kids!

When the kid's born you'll fall in love with it ('less it's REALLY ugly) & you won't even care what it calls you!!!?!?

Wouldn't that make you a GREAT-AUNT(not talking quality-wise here obviously!!) at an even younger age?!?

I think this step stuff is stupid, you will be there from the birth of this child and will treat it the same as your Mr biscuit so as far as i can see you will be its grandma, i think when you come into a families life when they are a certain age its different but if your there from the start theres nothing really step about it. Well that made sense to me only i think

If I had known this was gonna turn into a pi$$ take I would never have posted I'm not old!!!!!!!! (She's says trying to get out the rocking chair)

I prefer the floozy reference to be called old!!

Not really......
#18
i would go with just your name , be a friend and a loved one not a label , i do understand the asspect of feeling old due to your partner but 32 is nothing but a baby still in my eyes and just out of being a dumb teenager , concider if its a girl then you wont be too old to go out drinking and dancing when shes old enough

lol -

im the youngest of 9

all of us have kids

9 of my direct nieces/nephews have kids, some are the same age as my kids :giggle:

You know I became an aunt at a young age and wasn't comfortable with being called 'aunt jen' I belive my neice and her mum and I came to an agreement that as soon as my neice was old enough she could decid what she wanted to call me untill then I should go with the 'respectful' title.
perhaps going along with it just now untill the babes old enough to make their own choice might be an idea. I actually grew to like my title it made me feel like a real part of the family

I agree, my aunty is in this situation and has been 'nanny' since the start! She was thrilled to get her first nanny card on her birthday, and is now trying to get the baby to say nanny (baby is 9months and starting to talk)
#39
Ive got the same problem with my OH's step mam, baby will have 2 grannys, therefore she will just be...grandad and sarah!
Shes not a granny, so i aint pretending for her to be one...confusing for the child!
