Stephen Fry is a genius, a lovely man and one of the greatest people to have come out of this country for a long time.

Don't be silly, why would anyone want to have something balanced and unbiased presented to them!??!?

:-D

Fry said that in terms of important things such as wars, people being sent to die and the grand scheme of things, an MP exagerrating their expenses is not important.

Not like a journalist to sensationalize and twist an interview is it :whistling:
#11
Sounds like he's upset a few journalists in his time and vice versa.
#12
People go to prison for less.

for the actual interview...

Stephen Fry is great, have a read of his autobigraphy and then judge him instead of relying on the Telegraph who are trying to keep the expenses business going as long as possible to sell those papers

Really?

Yep he has led quite the criminal life with his stealing and fraud

If you follow Stephen Fry on twitter you'd see that he is very upset that he is being portrayed as sucking up to the MPs.

"In his mid-teens, when he noticed he was drawn to boys instead of girls, Fry started getting into trouble. He was expelled from three schools, and attempted suicide at sixteen. At seventeen, he was found guilty of credit card fraud and spent three months in prison."

In light of this information the OP still stands . . . . . . . a bit unfair and indicative of how the media has control of our direction of thought. Shame.

+1 unfortunately some people (not directed at OP) will believe everything they read without seeking out the facts for themselves

+1

But goes with the torries typical witch hunting when it comes to twisting the truth. Shame they came out just as bad.

Any death is a priceless loss that causes untold grief and bereavement to the loved ones left behind, but that fact does not give MP's carte blanche to rob the taxpayers. They should pay back where they have taken liberties with expenses. But neither should the tax payer be mislead to believe this is just a one party problem or simply just a modern one. Where-ever there is a system, there will be those who seek to challenge it. No-one who seeks power should be allowed to attain it.

Haha I love Telegraph readers...
Good article Liz!

Stephen Fry should be fried up and served to pigs in a trough! How can a so called intelligent man make comments so at odds with public feeling?

At the moment the Church should govern England on a temporary basis with a smattering of QCs to restore order and legality! Tom, M

If your son had just given his life for his country would you think it would be headline news or the fact that someone had bought a trouser press with taxpayers money was much more important

Absolutely. Very well put.

The fact MPs done it was wrong and good on the Telegraph for exposing it but why oh why do I need to constantly read about it and hear it? I couldn't care less now if a Lib Dem/ Labour/ Conserv claimed for someone to wipe their ****. There are much more important things to concentrate on

Because of political scapegoating. If the people are busy thinking about the minutiae of day to day life, they aren't considering the main issues and so Brown stays in power....

Hubby says its my ninights time.

I agree with all you state - however, dragging this back to the OP, this isn't about "turning a blind eye" to the situation of expenses, thats not what Mr Fry said, his interview was an observation on how there are more important things going on than an MP claiming £200 for a toilet seat. His statement was more an observation on the power the media holds and how less important topics can be built up to blind people from the bigger issues at hand.

MP's are wrong, but they have been allowed to do this - as Clarity stated, wherever theres a system, there will be people who seek to challenge it, and this is no different, MP's will keep the public happy by paying cheques back, but as soon as this dies down, more "perks" (less dectectable perks) will be pushed through parliment and we'll be none the wiser till the next scandal . . . .

Again, I agreed with Clarity's statement, however the OP is inaccurate and a diatribe based on sensationalist journalism by an attention seeking hack.
