Would love to see PC World go under, mainly because of them turning their backs on the amount of price promise retailers they said they would beat...it must have been crippling them, just goes to show in this day and age a lot of shops will go under due to cheaper online prices.

At one time shops used to argue that you dont get the same service online...well....

I prefer to do research online, read reviews etc...rather than ask some muppet who is likely to have no training and no jack squat instore at an inflated price....

Major High St retailers need to change something fast, else towns are just going to either turn into an endless array of pound and charity shops....or more interestingly may turn into unique craft shops etc etc.

Typical Wetherspoons customer - can't even spell the name of their favourite "pub" :-D

DSG and the majority of Currys/PCW won't be going anywhere.

The Company has backup money is 2 offshore accounts totalling somewhere near £379,000000 in each.

there will be casualties for shops that arent doing as well or are too close to XL and superstores but as a whole the reported loss was the first loss in 25 years.

So for now I get to keep my job.

PCW and Currys should be fine. I do however think they will merge as one store where possible. Electric World or sumit :-S!

Muppet World would be more appropriate....

Last time I was there they had my debit card off me, swiped it and never gave it me back, in my rush it didnt dawn on me until I was elsewhere in the retail park about to make another purchase...had to go back and show ID to retrieve it

simple human errors, they happen.

and the fact that the poster had to show ID to get the card back, proves that security measures do work.

I think you will find that Matalan and Halfords are doing OK.
I wasn't aware that DFS are struggling as much as MFI and Land of Leather.

You are right to say they are solvent but the company has nowhere near £379m stashed away.

They only had £83m 7 months ago. The saving grace is that they are not heavily borrowed.

they may have only had £83m in the UK but the DSGi has a separate trust fund put aside for hard times in those 2 offshore accounts.
its for times like these and for if the shops all went under, peoples warranties would be honoured from the trust funds in these accounts

They only have £83m overall......I think you will find that this includes the offshore monies......

Also, I have noticed that their short term bills have worsened so they will need the cash to cover this......

Hold on, warranties are covered by insurance, not by money.....

they might want to use the money to pay off the loans totalling £295m which expire soon and currently costing £18m per year to service!

Hey i just work there...what do I know.

Except that the shop I work in isn't closing.
i couldnt care less about all the other ones aslong as I have a job and pay my bills
[mod]#39
People who are wishing companies go under are absolute idiots. Why would you wish for people to lose their jobs?! No doubt one reason is that those people possibly dont have a job themselves. We need shops to stay open.
#40
luckily my work is doing ok.

they claimed there first billion $ profit in the summer
