I've got a folder with all my avi files in on an external hard drive but a strange file has appeared in it.

The file extension is .bd and is named with all strange characters, it is 4gb in size but if i try to delete it it tells me to insert disc into my dvd drive.

anyone know what this is and how i can get rid of it?

it might be a backup file, your hard drive is automatically making backups of certain files.
I am probably wrong

It seems it is something to do with a solaris browser data file, have a look here, they are part of sun micro systems who design java technology

Seems odd? especially the size, 4gb is far to large to be java i would have thought, initially thought it could be backup data (bd), is it a mac?

Just out of interest have you scanned the file with your anti virus software?, also do you use bitdefender, also if you have a scroll down this site it lists all known programs that associate with .bd, see if there are any that you use,

The shell files are files that are used to run the operating system? i wouldnt try and delete it at the moment incase for some reason it has migrated itself or copied itself from the windows folder, going to have to dig about a bit and come back to you tomorow if you havent sorted it out by then
