Strange that GAP don't have a UK website

Was recently asking about where to get carpenter jeans, one place that was mentioned was GAP..so off I went to scour the internet looking for GAP..and no website available for the UK.

So popped over to the USA website..great I thought can maybe order from there...nope they do not allow orders outside the USA. Find it very strange that such a large clothing corporation that doesn't even have a website for the UK / Europe in this day and age.

it really bugs me i LOVE gap!!!

the other thing that annoys me about them is if u look at identical items one will be $19.50 and the one in this country £19.50 hows that fair!!

That's odd! I wonder if it has anything to do with the name "Gap" being used for all kinds of sites. I'd of thought that a big company like that would have a link to some UK section on the web.

Dunno possibly that could be the reason..but they could have done say a sub domain for the UK with their .com name.

They even have a gapcareers.co.uk website but no online UK retail store...very strange :?

This kind of thing happens with various businesses. Last year I bought kids books (all the same), they were printed in the UK, but I got them from USA for around the same price of two here, and that included delivery. The daft thing is, they were shipped to USA, then back here.

GAP stands for Gay and Proud , lol only jk

i havent been to gap in yonks

I think the difference in price is all to do with the exchange rate. We went to the US in April and found that anything from an American company ie GAP, Crocs, Converse, Guess etc were the same price over there in dollars as they are over here in pounds because the exchange rate was good. Wish I'd known this before I went out there as I was gutted when I got back and saw the prices, I'd have bought another suitcase and filled it!!

I too tried to find the GAP website a while ago and was a bit bobbed off that there wasn't one. They have closed quite a few branches in the UK recently apparently so I hope they're not trying to tell us something!!

GAP is a clothing brand that derives its name from the word 'generation gap' between adults and children. The Fisher's were frustrated with the lack of fashionable styles and decent customer services. They decided to come up with their own brand of clothing. 'Levi's for Guys and Gals' and 'Fall into the Gap', were two of their early mottos. Around 1982, they decided to focus on the private label clothing and by 1991-92, stopped carrying Levi's.

Quoted from Wikipedia

'Contrary to the urban myth that Gap stands for Gay and Proud, the name originated from the phrase "the generation gap.'

Know they are not trying to tell you anything, its simply a age old retail issue of lease's expiring etc.. infact they are actually opening stores at the moment.

With regards to 'Gap' it is the generation gap as posted above and nothing to do with the Gay and Proud part
