Anybody know if this is happening, all the strawberrys are £1.99 for 400g and they wont let it drop further, even with a bumper crop now or in the winter, its the magical £1.99 for 400g, why is this ? When an indy grocer will sell them for less. Even Tesco won't let it drop below £1.99 for 400g and want to throw in a pot of single cream. You'll probably see BOGOF soon at £1.99 but they won't let the price drop.

Supermarkets ripping you off.

Support your local greengrocers, they are often much cheaper on most fruit and vegetables.

maybe they work on profit margins........just a thought

you dont have to shop in supermarkets you know

they were all 99p in my local co-op.....stacks of them, must have been held up somewhere s they aint got more than a day or 2 left in them

do what we have and grow your own, our little one love looking after them and watching the flowers turn to strawberries. Taste so much better than supermarket one too. we started last year with 6 plants (£2 for the 6) and we got over 20 plants from the runners last year which we split between us & family. at the mo we get a good handful ever day sometimes more

er, in Southport sadly you do, no grocer exists anywhere and the butchers are having a hard time, how bad is that :(

LOL ^^

Agree about the local greengrocers or even local farm shops, it will also be PYO season soon :)

Is it not to do with the strawberries that supermarkets stock. I think there is a certain strawberry that supermarkets have grown for them, where as the local grocers sell any of the hundred varieties of strawberry.

I buy strawberries, cherries, raspberries and the like from the stalls on our local High Street. They are half the price of supermarkets and they taste so much nicer.

just go your local market, i've stopped being lazy and make a trip now to the local market to get fruits and veg

you can get 8 large bananas for 70p
8 SWEET oranges for £1
Spanish strawberries, 2 packs for £1
British strawberries 1 pack £2

plus more

i wouldnt moan as they sell local ones where i work for £5.95 a kilo:thumbsup:

Thanks

I've never seen these shops, but they are the other side of town about 7 miles away, where I live theres no grocers, no shops, just a giant Tescos. If I go into the main town, theres 1 grocer that opened up like 1 week ago, thats it. The town is choked with 4 huge supermarkets and its killed the town trade, all that is left are charity shops and coffee bars !

I heard that strawberries were £1.99 in supermarkets, can't remember where though. :whistling:

these ones are better than supermarket ones, they're big and juicy and at supermarkets you can only get that at that price if they're reduced or half price sale etc

I go to Southport quite often, my family live in Birkenhead. I don't like the front now, it's become far too commercialised. There is, as you say no food shops along the main stretch. Is there not a Saturday/Sunday local market/car boot kind of thing? There's usually a fruit and veg trader at them.
