Stray cat what can I do?

There's a stray cat who keeps hanging around and is in my door like a shot, the cat is very friendly, has no collar or tag and has been hanging around for about 5 weeks now.

If it wasn't for my parrots I would give the cat a home but I cant take the risk,I rung the cpl who told me they cant help but what can i do the cat sits outside my house howling to be let in!! my own fault i guess as i felt sorry for it and gave it some ham and tuna, when it rains it sits beneath my doorstep, can i drop it off at a vets? we dont have a local rspca either
any help I'd be most grateful

Might be worth popping to the vets with it as they can scan it in to see if it's chipped.

My cats often loose thier collars when out on a roam - might just be lost.

edit - I don't think you can just drop it off at the vets - what are they supposed to do with it! Sadly unless it is chipped there isn't an easy answer unless you know someone who wants a cat - sounds friendly enough to be taken in by a family member or friend.

worto.

Try calling the RSPCA for advice they should be able to help, either that or the PDSA.

RSPCA: 0300 1234 999

good idea thats worth a try thanks

Oh by the way well done for giving it some food etc, poor wee thing.

you can take it to the vet - they can see if its chipped. I think they can then probably pass it on to the CPL if it hasnt

Sounds like you will have a lodger unless the RSPCA come and help, mind you if it is friendly enough and you don't mind it living in the shed, whats the harm in having an extra "outdoor" pet?

you can take it to the vet - they can see if its chipped.

If it's chipped it'll be so fast they'll never catch the damn thing

Good advice though.

I dont mind feeding it but cant let it in the house, its stunk the shed out already so letting it in there was a bad move, its the wailing all night long thats driving me insane at the moment lol

does it sit outside the door and cry at night? if so best thing is to have the CPL or RSPCA come get it.

08702 099 099 is the CPL number

yes it wails outside the door, poor thing, think it would really like to snuggle up on a warm comfy bed and have parrot pie for dinner

thanks for all the help offered will ring around and see what can be done

We had one that kept coming in. Very friendly fluffy thing. and kept eating food put down for mine. Eventually I got fed up with not knowing if it was a stray or not and took it to our vet. Turned out it was chipped and they rang the owner - they actually live on the road which backs onto mine - the vet wanted to hold onto it till they could collect but eventually let me take it home and chuck it out the back door. I have spoken to the owner and she chucks him out when she goes to work and it cant get back in till she comes home - therefore rather than being out in the cold all day it pops through our cat flap and spends the day in the warm! its not stupid!

Does nobody understand that cat's do this.
They usually have at least 3 or 4 "homes" where they get fed , pampered and generally spoilt. Once it's got all it wants from you it will be on to the next mug.

This is why the Ancient Egyptians worshipped the cat and insisted they were all female ;-)

Don't feed it or pamper it and as sure as eggs are eggs it will not be back unless it's to trip you up when you put the washing out.

Spike Milligan had the right idea when it came to stray cats

lol i have like what seems like 5 stray cats in my road that keep walking on my garden walls and sound like their crying every now and then.
#22
It keeps coming back and wailing cos you keep feeding it.

Neighbours just taken in a stray - THANKS!! :( My garden is now full of Cat Poo which has to be shifted before I can let my young kids play outdoors.

Just going through various methods of getting rid of said cat (shovel and box if I had my way :whistling: ). Currently loaned a workm8 Ultra-Sonic gun thing which isn't very effective. I believe they don't work well on older cats.

I'd go for the glock 19, but whatever floats your boat.

There are some sick posts on here.
I took in a stray cat and kept it no probs.
Alot of cats stray at this time of year, it's probably just strayed too far.
RSPCA will collect the cat frm you if there is no way you can take it to them.
Try vets, then ring RSPCA to ask if they can collect.
The cat is possibly stressed, missing it's owner and comforts, so it's prob for the best to ring RSPCA if you cant keep it. :)

If it is not chipped and you don't want it hanging around,I would get in touch with Cats Paws if they are in your area. They will not put any cat down and will endeavour to find it a home.I am not sure, but I think if the cat is not rehomed then RSPCA put unwanted cats down:-(

Love 'em when they slide in beside you under the duvet warm and purring gently.

Not so fussed on the ones that hang around street corners or your back garden wailing and hissing and such like. Smelly things !

I'm not the sort of person that could harm an animal in any way,i couldnt even squirt a water pistol at it,some of the posts are a tad childish to say the least, this is a living animal we are talking about, some of you seem to be heartless :o(

I'm just waiting for the local vets to call me back, theyre trying to find somewhere that will take it but i'm not sending it to the rspca just to be put down,it needs a home

Well I might of taken you in and fed you something because of your cheeky disposition.
Would have had to scrub you up and wormed you first though.:w00t:

I've no doubt you would have made a good impression for a few years. :p
