Is she on about the NUS Extra card? You have to pay £10 for one of them if so.. (last time I checked it was £10)

Don't you have to be at uni for them? Didn't get one when I was in 6th form :?

reading the t&c you need to have a student union at the 6th form to get one

When I went to Uni I got my card at matriculation which I showed at most shops / clubs / bars and restrauants in the city. I think you got a similar one for college goers and I know you can get whats known as a "yellow card" for pubs.

NUS extra costs around a tenner and would be worth it if your going to use it lots! But as that link points out, you DONT have to be in uni to apply for one. I believe the college you attend just have to sign and stamp your application or something.

EDIT: Didnt read thoroughly enough to see that you'd rung up and found out the college isnt affiliated, my bad!

28 and still have a Yellow Card, I just smile and confidently ask for one each year.

I did buy a Gold 'Yellow Card for life' before leaving uni and promptly lost it.

Some colleges like the one I work at issue student ID cards and they have NUS printed on them you can use these for discounts at some places but some shops insist on having the extra one which does cost £10 per year.

no they are going to a different college

Only thing she can do then is see if one of her mates can say she has lost her card and get a replacement one from the college - we make a charge for this of £5 they may not.

No she won't be able to buy one if her college is not part of it because you have to enter the name of the college and they send the card to the NUS department at the college. It will have friends pic on it but shops don't tend to check the photo closely I have got away with using my husbands before now!!

yes you can buy the NUS extra, the college has to stamp your application form, then send it off and they send it back to your home address, but as i said she cannot get this till spetember, but deffo think it must be some kind of temporary id cards they have
