Suffering shin splints! Anyone know a way to get rid of them?

I got shin splints really bad last night in circuits, I havent suffered them for years, but today they are killing me even when sat down!

Does anyone know a cure to get rid of the pain quick or is it just a rest issue?
Really wanted to go to my Zumba class tonight, Im not sure if working through the pain will just sort them?

Daft question I know, but Google seems to just explain what they are and how they are caused!

My daughter suffered with these when she went in the Navy I think she got inserts for her trainers from a Chiropdist or doctors. She says she does not suffer now though.

That was the last time I suffered them when I was in part 1 training in the Navy! But then again that was hard fitness! :)
I will see if my Chemist have any inserts thank you :)

Thank you for that, will have a read through :)

dcx - I do classes most nights at gym, but last night we were made to run around the hall as a warm up, then the instructor bogged off for what seemed like an eternity lol I feel its because my legs are used to running that distance on a tredmill and not the hard ground. I may try Zumba tonight because its not running, just dancing type fitness!

Will probably end up in agony again tonight!

I started getting them when I played 5-a-side, when I was about 20... which is quite late. The doctor said there was nothing I could really do, aside from not running on hard ground. It got to the point that if the ball hit my shin I would nearly drop. I'm 23 now and they are pretty much gone. All I can really say is give it time... or perhaps don't do running things, though I wouldn't recommend that.

^^^^ reasons up there VB1 why I cant shop my leg off :p Cant be dealing with cleaning up the blood!

Andysjones I must be too late to have them then as im 27, I am sure then that it must of been the distance I ran on the hard ground, Will see how they got at Zumba tonight, May have to give boxersice a miss tomorrow night :(

Funnily I get it the opposite way around. I'm fine when walking jogging but suffer badly if I go on a treadmill. My trainer could only think that I move my feet/ankles differently when on the treadmill compared to when I walk/run.

It won't stop the pain for now but might be worth looking at your posture etc when running on hard ground.

The doctor told me there's not much to do. I only got mine when walking quickly, don't get it walking at normal speed, jogging or running, they're all fine, the doctor told me to just not walk at that certain speed. So I do that and haven't had them for a while now.

You went to the doctors when there's a whole forum you could have asked! wow, mind = blown
