Check the insurance before you buy a boy racers car
#3
you will get a decend car for that amount
#4
yes would go with a punto.
#5
I knew I had read an ad for one on here!

I wouldnt spend all that on your first car...spend about £1k

btw...does that inc insurance?
#7
You should get a banger first.. until you've had some driving experience, Spend a little for more quality/reliable car. I'd sepnd no more than £1000 for a first car!
I'd look at Honda, Toyota or VW. may be a polo?
#8
Have to agree, go for more of an old banger for a couple of years, put the rest away towards a nicer car when you have some experience and are less likely to smash into a lamp post whilst checking out giggling girls... lol
#9
Well i passed my test 7 months ago so i have some experience and im on as a named driver with ncbs and the £2000-2500 doesnt include insurance.
#10
if its your firs car id spend as little as posible mabe something in the region of £600
just to get grips with everything
im not into image and suitablilty makes more of an impact on me
dont care as long if it gets me from a-b
unless of course you want a pe*** extention
#11
Yeah, dont spend to much on it. My first car was an old car, but loved it and was reliable and best buy only cost £425 and lasted me 2.5 years
#12
Nissan Micra

my partner had for his first car a corsa it was a fairly old one but he loved it. Very cheap to run and if he had any engine probs was easy to fix and cheap.... hes now got a Audi A3 and pays £2000 on insurance !!! which he now regrets as it certaily takes a chunk of his wages especially with petrol, when you want a nice car to cruise around in it will always come at a price!!!! Good luck !!!
#14
its the usual suspects really, clio, 206, punto, fiesta, micra, corsa, saxo or 106.

If I were you I'd research which is the cheapest to insure and for roadtax, find a low mileage one with 12 months tax/test and go for that. Forget looking cool and keep a sensible head about things.
#15
Dont go for a punto, 3 of my mates have/had them. Each one kept breaking down and needing to be repaired. I'd say go for a corsa or fiesta. I currently own a 1.7Di Corsa and have had no problems with it. It gets 55mpg so is very economical.
#16
Get a BMW. I will be getting one when I'm 18 (serious).
#17
Ignore what JFK said, hes about as clued up as Bush was on the Iraw war.

Ive got a corsa, had it for 6 years now as my first car, (now 23) brilliant car, make sure u get 5 door not 3 door as that instantly turns u into a female.

I got an M reg but im sure u can get alot newer now for the money

Never had any problems with it and its done 100k miles

i got myself a 325i at 18 tho insurance was £1200 and is still the car i was most proud of

now i have a £350 rover 416i which has paid for itself a million times over! shame its too cold to ride me ninja :(
#27
Get yourself a Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa.

If anything goes wrong, there any plenty of spare parts to fix it!

Don't touch a Saxo. You'll spend more time driving to the garage than anywhere else! Also stay away from Clios.

If you can afford to go with Volkswagen, get a Polo.

Don't forget the insurance is going to be a killer on anything with an engine bigger than 1.0l (how anyone can afford a 1.7tdi as mentioned above for a first car is beyond me).

My corsa (the 1.7Di) is only insurance cat 3 so cheap to insure, well wen i say cheap, cheap for fully comp on my own policy with under 1 years driving experience at the age of 19.
#29

i got a seat ibiza last year when i was 17 cost £2500, insurance is £950 with me being a named driver on my dads policy with quinn. its a top car, same chassis as the mk4 golf, looks nice, you can easily make it look like a ibiza cupra (which im doing now).its a top car and i recon you cpuld pick up a nice 1.2 for £2000, also its very reliable, parts are easy to find and good fuel consumtion.

Does your dad drive your car at all? If quinn can prove that you are in fact the main driver then they will cancel youre insurance if you have a crash and not pay out, meaning you'll be done for having no insurance. Its insurance fraud and is called fronting, insurance companies are starting to crack down on it now. Just a word of warning, i've known quite a few people to do it and not be caught out.
#36
he drives it very occasionaly, but how would they find out?
#37
They tend to only find out when say you take your car with you to uni which is the other end of the country and crash it there, or if the car is in your name but on your dads insurance policy with you as a named driver.
#38
Im thinking about a vauxhall corsa 51 plate + but its a 1.0 litre and its got 55 bhp!!!! lol wellll sloow
#39
If you're planning on doing a lot of motorway miles dont get 1.
#40
nah. no motorways in norfolk just dual carriageways. Would a 1.0 corsa be better MPG than a 1.2 corsa?
