  ferry is £39.50 per foot passenger return from liverpool or heysham depending on when you want to get there
  but personally i'd take 4 cars and get the 02:15am sailing from heysham on the 15th, you can then sleep on the ferry and have a full day there
  coming back i'd get the 08:45 to heysham or the 15:00 to liverpool
  heysham is further to drive but its only 10 mins off the m/way where as you have to drive across liverpool to reach the docks
  with cars it works out about £65 each

  You all got passports? Barcelona (but lots of other destinations) with Ryanair is less than £100 return (just taking hand luggage). Fly out Friday lunchtime and fly back late Sunday night. Lots of cheap accommodation, cheap beer in the less trendy bars, good Euro exchange rate and a very good chance of some sun!
  
  Also it take as long to get to from B'ham as it will take you to drive to the coast in the UK.
