one of my friends just moved to a new area to start a new job. He doesnt know anybody there and works in a small office which doesnt really offer any opportunities to meet new friends

hes quite down about it but has to stick it out as he has a year to go in the job before he is fully trained. im a bit worried about him cos he sounds quite down about things because he isnt enjoying the job either

has anybody got any ideas how and where he could meet new people. he is gona start checking out the local bar scene but he feels a bit paranoid going there and sitting on his own etc

How about sports or things like that? Going football matches, rugby? Maybe even playing? Or even gym classes etc.

Where is he situated??

he works in a small office with a couple of older married women and his boss doesnt live in the area so extending his network through work isnt really an option

he hasnt seen any ads for night classes etc - does anybody know of a decent website for this type of thing?

Maybe try at his local town college - they usually run short courses on various hobbies...

If you gave us an idea where he is we might be able to suggest places to go.
Salsa classes are a great place to meet people. Its not intimidating and theres usually social time afterwards. That and the fact the music is brilliant

You're forgiven but if you get a chance of trying a salsa class or visiting a salsa club I highly recommend it.

2 salsa teachers that I rate are Angus Peters - works out of Devon area but has worked in london, and Dean Maynard - Aldershot and London areas. There are others depending on what area you are in that I could probably tell you about but those 2 are really good teachers, have great personality and arent too up themselves to dance with students at the end of the evening.

La Rueda is fab to learn - fast and fun. can usually be found connected to salsa classes

Tell him to go to his local library. Libraries often have lists of local groups and organizations.

Maybe a local amateur theatre group. There are always local groups putting on plays, and even if he does not want to be on stage he can help behind the scenes. Lots of young girls often take part in amateur theatre so great way to meet girls.

See if there is a young persons rambling group. Rambling/walking is a great way to meet people. You walk through the country and you find yourself talking to whoever is next to you. Great way to make friends.

The spice organization is a place to meet other young people and do all sorts of things

Also buy local papers, they often have details of local events, also local clubs and societies.
