It's probably the oil sump, did you hit a speed hump too fast?
Are you losing oil?

Why not ask your neighbour's, i am sure they'd love to help you.
Perhaps you could barter, turn down your music for 5 mins and they could.....tell you to sod off :giggle:

It means the engine could be completely trashed or it could just have a minor oil leak. Best to ask the seller what the damage is tbh.

Sump damage means the container that holds the oil required in the engine is broken. There may be no actual damage to the car but the engine will have been run dry and as such be aware you may need to replace the engine. You will not know for sure until the sump is replaced. Hope this helps.

what engine is it if is just small crack or leak couuld use chemical metal
if thread has gone in sump for sump plug you could get a insert put in
you also need to find out if it has been driven without oil if so forget it lots of money for vw engines

To be honest if you havent bought the car id avoid it unless its REALLY cheap and you get it checked out by a proper mechanic first

Walk away from the deal as you obviously not an expert on cars:roll:

A sump is normally at the bottom of an engine.

When your car is stood still this is where the oil that you put in the engine sits.

When your car moves the oil pump takes oil from the sump and pumps it around the engine keeping it all lubricated.

Sump damage can be anything from a minor leak to major damage which may have caused further damage to the oil pump, the engine block and the crankshaft and probably a whole host of other things.

Walk away:thumbsup:

I think this is good advice simply because as detailed in various posts sump damage is very vague and can mean a lot of money - a workmate's car has been written off for sump damage (car went over a wall) which is obviously the more extreme side of it on an older Skoda Octavia.

The sump is under the engine so it's easily possible for the car to have grounded out over something enough to damage the sump but not visibly mark the exterior of the car.
