Sunday 14th Jan - News of the World Scratch cards – Have I won?

Hi,

Has anyone ever had 2 or 3 symbols matching on the scrathcard and phoned the 090 number?
On the scratch card, it says you have definitely won a prize and the lowest is £250 and the highest £1m.

From the 3 cards I received with the paper, (actually in the plastic bag containing the tv mag and Sunday Magazine) I have one which has two symbols matching and on the other one with 3 matching.

On the card it says, calls are £1.50 per min and the maximum the call will take is 6 minutes.

Should I phone or is this just a scam?

If it is a scam, can News of the World get away with doing this sort of thing?

Thanks

If this is the type of scratchcard I think it is it is almost certainly a scam, You will find every card is a winner and im sure if you claim your prize you will have little chance of seeing it.

I also agree with you that these papers should take responsibility for the crap that is distributed with their papers. :x

You could end up getting something that has a RRP of £250 (i.e. it is technically "worth" £250) like a Pentium I machine which had a RRP of £250 when it was made 10 years ago. I dunno but something along those lines maybe?

normally the prize tends to end up having the value of the phone call you make.........
#4
Lol, you often get lots of vouchers which you can't use.

Most likely you'll get your £250 provided you'll do something, e.g. you buy a TV from them for a £1000 (which would normally cost £750 in a shop), so I wouldn't bother if I was you.

at the end of the day they are somehow making money from this whole thing otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. And it's from your phonecall. So no, my personal opinion is that I wouldn't bother.

'you have definitely won a prize and the lowest is £250 and the highest £1m'

If they feel the need to say it in such an ambiguous manner you can assume it's an elaborate con.
Does anyone (not affiliated with a scratch card scheme :)) actually know anyone that has won anything
other than an expensive phone call?

a few years back i won 'a trip to ireland' which turned out to be basic return ferry, ok it was free but it had to be taken on certain dates and i would of HAD to book and stay at the hotel they specified! was expensive, so there was their incentive!

obviously i didnt take it up, cost around £6.00 in calls to claim it,

also won 'a real emerald' once, had to send S.A.E after the phone call, received it, it was miniscule, lol

Everyone wants something for nothing.. Can't get conned if your not greedy.

Are these cards actually FROM the NOTW (i.e. they are running the competition and their name is on the scratchcard) or was it just random "junk mail" in the magazine?

You can check the small print on the back. Usually there are one or two of the big money prizes and then 2000 of say, a holiday. The terms are usually as loupomm said above, only on certain dates and booking fees etc to be paid.

90% of the times these are crappy holiday vouchers.
