Suprise in my daughters story sack

shanecr Avatar
6y, 3m agoPosted 6 years, 3 months ago
Collected my daughter from her playgroup a short while ago, and upon leaving she was handed a story sack to take home.
We get in and she excitedly opened and took out everything inside....including someones lighter!!
Im quite angry about it, and wondering how best to handle it.
Anyone experienced anything similar?

Thought the title was a euphemism for something else...

Maybe she's started smoking crack and forgot to hide the evidence. There was a thread on here the other day saying more and more people have started doing it :o

The Playgroup should check each time it is sent home, but I found with my Daughters nursery school they used to send the bear bag home with so many items missing, possibly previous parents havent put all the bits back in so the bear ends up with nothing!

But a lighter in the bag is discusting! I would be calling them now to ask why it wasnt checked!

Obviously not much you can do now as your Daughter is probably pleased to be given the story sack so would want to keep it, but the playgroup need to know they messed up and will make them realise they need to be 100% checking this out before they hand over to children!

thats terrible, i would definetly take it back next time you go and complain.

Use some fire resistant gloves like those used for handling sparklers.

cotact the local lea
send a written complain to the school. they will have to log it and respond officially.

talking to my wife, the playgroup is run by a public committee and funded by the local council. do i go to the committee or the council?
#8
I would report to council after all its a serious mistake init.
What if you'd sent her upstairs with the bag and she'dplayed with the lighter.?

my thoughts indeed, although she may have been unable to use it, her older brother probably could and he has trouble understanding what is dangerous. It could have been worse, but it wasnt. I sent a complaint to the council asking advice. i assume either they will handle it or point me in the right direction.

no one died....

also proves that it is unlikely that they disinfected the contents as they should have done-if they had thoroughly cleaned everything they would have spotted the lighter.

Or they did that first, then at some point after it got dropped in.

Big deal.

No one died, none thread.

Who cares! NOT. ME.

Why you reading it then? I never understand people who say they dont care about the thread, think its pointless but still feel the need to keep reading and posting?

take them to court and sue them for all the money they've got, hopefully your daughters education won't be affected.

have you never made a mistake, dropped your keys or such? I would make them aware and return it so they know to be a bit more careful in future. No harm done I take it? *shrugs*

Sod that, lets get someone sacked for a minor incident because a load of axe-weilding tosspots on a forum say so.

If you are generally happy with the playgroup then I would just take it back and explain. They are human and make mistakes and they can find out at what stage it got in there and Im sure will then make sure a similar incident doesn't happen again. If this is just one of many things you are not happy with about the playgroup then maybe it would be different.

I agree with this, if the playgroup is generally really good, then just take it back and tell them. if this is the latest in a long line of problems, report them.

It's only a lighter.

Just go in and ask why it was in there etc, no need to have a hissy fit over though, it's just a lighter.

DISINFECTED??? are you serious?

But anyway, what happened with this? I'm a teacher and we often get odd things happen (I was recently asked at parents evening if we were actually going to build a rocket and go on a school trip to space by a parent who'd conpletely misunderstood.... everything)

if it looks like this one

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR5snl33AJCwtJ0rn6Og0o2_NKuZhpGNubqirAs6af-CojZVBw&t=1&usg=__Q9yFa_htYSox0M_MRsu1d83MCto=

then you can send it to me, I collect them. I don't know why, I just do!

But, lucky you found it, if your daughter had started to experiment with it then it could have turned out pretty bad
