i am about to buy my first car later today. it is an s reg suzuki swift. the reason im buying this car is basically because its cheap to run and my insurance is only £44 per month on my provisional. the car has 2 owners from new (mother and son) and has MOT. everything sounds good but when i asked my uncle if he would take me to pick it up, he said that if anything went wrong with the car it would be hard finding parts and if i do find the parts, i would need to remortgage to buy them??? is he just trying to put me off so he doesnt have to drive 60 miles to get it or is he right?

Think you're uncle is a bit stuck in the past, give hime a slap! The swift is a pretty popular car and getting parts shouldn't be a problem.

Nah, I don't think you will have any problems. If you are still unsure, give your local garage a ring and ask.

Yes and no. To buy gen parts it will be. But for older cars you can buy cheap third party parts.

It should not be that expensive, but something like a ford is dirt cheap!

Maybe he is thinking of a subaru which is CA-CHING!.lol

Only advice is, check the car in and out, any doubt dont buy. My first car I wanted to rush and get it. Later had issues.lol

Always wait as there is always a better car around.

Good luck.

ish....they were made from 1995 (ish) to 2003 so parts are plentiful and do last, but, they can be a little pricey. for example my local garage could only get a back box for £67 + VAT but i found someone in Germany who could get me one for less than £30. It is a good car overall, and mine is very reliable. Parts may be expensive, but mine has still cost far less to run than a ford or vauxhall because it is durable.

i have always had swifts as a 2nd car, they are like you say, cheap to buy etc.. but if anything does go wrong with it it is cheaper to just buy a new one. lol but then again the reliability of them is great.. had two different ones in over 10 years & they have been very reliable. had to replace the cat once which was about 800 quid or something ridiculous like that and they wanted £95.00 for a wing mirror

few years ago i clipped a ford escort or focus can't remember, took off their wing mirror, ford wanted £115 for a new one and that was approx 7rs ago.
