What does everybody think about this?

The country is currently Level 5, if it goes to Level 6, schools will be closed, unis closed etc.
School is paignton is currently closed, anybody got kids who are there?

Do people think we are going to reach level 6?

The government has 30 million injections for it, 50% cover, this is very high considering even the Spanish Epidemic that spread across Europe years ago never hit 50%.

I still think its going to spread. Virus is doing more damage in the hotter climates. So hopefully wont grip on so bad here.

i think a lot of people will get it, but I dont think it will kill many people, they will just have a mild flu-like illness.

Personnally while I accept this is a danger i think the press are blowing it out of all proportions. If you watch the media it is a gloomy world where everyone will die jobless, penniless and of swine flu.

Scare tactics sell in the media so that is what they are using. 150 or so deaths is not a great deal given the common cold kills thousands every year (primarily in winter) I think there has been an over reaction I think and the scaremongering will continue to worry people and sell newpapers. Don't get me wrong I think there is a risk with swine flu for everyone but for 150 people to be killed in a country thousands of miles away and a native baby from that country being killed in a neighbouring country will no cause great problems in the UK as long as careful procedures are followed.

The powers that be think it will be the worse here in the autumn time , i didn't know that the schools would shut if we went to level 6 this could mean that the schools are shut for a long time.

I do know that we are one of only two countries that could cope with a pandemic so quess that is a good thing , but really scary stuff ,at least it is only a weak strain not like in Mexico where is it much stronger

I do wreckon it will spread here too. I really hope vunerable people get priority with medication more than those that are deemed to be healthy.

I suffer from Asthma and I had a severe flu about 3 months ago. It was really awful and I ended up in hospital twice and I had to have a heart scan/reading taken. Having the flu is awful for anyone, however if you have a weaker immune system due to age or bronchial conditions then Flu can be very scary for some :(

Yeah, i'm pretty certain its the same with bird flu if that came over the UK like a shot, we wouldn't be allowed out the house.

But if it really does worsen, don't we want to make sure that the healthiest survive? Asthma ain't gonna cut it when we're trying to rebuild civilisation.

I say prioritise 25-50 year olds who are disease and illness free and have a bmi less than 28.

Oh thanks!!! Just leave the old and vunerable to keel over! What a delightful soul you are :w00t:

By the way... I'm 27 with a BMI less than 28, so do I get a vote?

I didn't come to that conclusion lightly. But do you really think when we're foraging for scraps that we can be held back? Isn't it about prolonging the species?

[FONT="Century Gothic"]the messages above are right, there have been 8 confirmed cases in uk, mild cases...WHO moved to level 5 because;
The threat level is raised to five - the second highest and where it is now - when there is human-to-human spread of the virus in at least two countries in one region.
A pandemic is declared once the virus shows effective transmission in two different regions of the world.

The raising of the level to five followed intensive consultations with experts and analysis of the spreading virus within and from Mexico.

God forbid anyone have asthma in your new civilisation!

Think your comments are a bit harsh and insulting to anyone who suffers from asthma. We're hardly at the point where we need to think about rebuilding our civilisation.

But who knows how long the supplies will last? I don't even know if we'll be able to maintain the power plants after the apocalypse and you want me to start manufacturing medication??

I think you're just being a bit thoughtless.

I agree , im only worried as i have Asthma and its bloody horrible when you come down with flu ,my immune system is weak , anything going around i bloody seem to catch ,been in hospital numerous times as a kid , really couldnt handle it again , im due to go on holiday best of it .....i wonder if i can get tablets of my doctor before hand as i really dont want to worry while im traveling and on my holiday

I know its all a bit OTT but i just dont want my holiday spoiled by being ill all the way through it

Ah seems quite expensive : http://www.121doc.co.uk/tamiflu.html

Would anyone put it past a large Western Government to create a contageous strain of flu that was previously unable to be transmitted to, and between, humans?

Could it have come at a more convenient time? A shrinking economy needs a smaller population.

A global pandemic takes the attention away from useless Governments that have squandered a load of money.

more people will die putting on their trousers/ shoes this year than of swine flu.

In 6 months we'll realies that brown and his govt have got away with blue murder but as they were busy sending out leaflets and buying up face masks nobody really noticed as they finally killed this country.
