Swineflu - a skivers dream.

I know.. "another swineflu thread"..

Anyway this morning i woke up feeling quite well, achey, stomach was going mental.. Headache.. Previous night i was quite restless.. Tiny bit stuffy.. Normal signs of flu coming on. Didnt go into work till 10:30am as i was 'toilet bound'.. But after that had gone a bit, i decided to go in and weather the rest.

Got a 7 week old boy, so had to be a little more cautious.. Took temp, isn't to high.. Still feel like i got something coming on.. But gonna wait till i see some more leveling signs.

Got me wondering though, speaking to GP on the phone.. Basically you just tell them symptoms, bam.. 5 days off work. GP even asked if i wanted to be on safe side and take some time off work, but i felt like waiting for some more pronounced signs. Have no physical contact with the little one for 1-2 days, making sure i don't cough open in the house etc.

What i found funny, is anyone could ring in.. Spout off anything they wanted and boom... Off work for 5 days with consent from a doctor and tamilfu prescription to shove in the employers face if they question you.

I mean i hardly ever take sick days.. In the last 2 years i've had 1 sick day. Meet plenty of serial skivers in my time, and they must be having an absolute field day with this one lol.

Whats also worrying, is it's probably playing hell with the statistics aswell.

So think anyone at your work is skiving on the swineflu ticket?

Do you think you have it?

The thing is, once you've had swine flu you're supposed to have immunity from it, so if you do pretend you've got it and throw a sicky, and then get it for real, you're basically screwed.

I know a couple who have suddenly developed swine flu, I think they managed to get bird flu too and chickenpox, measles, you name it they have had it. Always gonna be some who take the mick and get all they can!

Thing is they will just turn around and say...well i was only diagnosed over the phone. They must have been wrong lol
Someone I work with kept going on and on about the bit that was in the papers about GP's thinking about giving you two weeks off lol

I think i'm feeling slightly like crap, so rang GP to be safe and get advice as i've got a 7 week old baby in the house.. As it could be more serious if he contracted it.

But that's about it. If i wake up tomorrow or by tomorrow afternoon start to feel like a bad cold / flu is really hitting me, i'll ring the GP again and take work off.

Really hope i don't have to though, i'll never EVER live it down at work. It's been a running joke that someone will contract it since the papers went mad about it.

Personally I think that the numbers being bandied about are probably over inflated as you could have any flu...some may even just have bad colds...who knows.

I might eat my words if i get sick lol

tammyflu prescription is not easily given out, my missus was really ill last week, spent most of the week in bed and doctors (more than one) said she is young fit and healthy, so she can fight it off. i was told i had to stay home that week but we have vpn and can work from home, so no time off for me. but yes, easy to skiive if u really need to

not true. nhs website says so, so there :p

haha...no really its because the virus can/will mutate so the same antibodies u developed to fight the disease first time round, wont be sufficient for the mutated version

someone I worked with was always the first to go down with any virus that was doing the rounds.

and then he wondered why he was the first person to be made redundant!

I thought i had it but i feel much better today , so i just have a man flu :p

The only true way to prove 'swineflu' is via a blood test.....then you'll know for sure.
#19
i had suspected swinflu last week! rang the Drs and i was told because i was healthy to rest, drink plenty of water and keep away from people until my symptoms had died down, Ive got young children in the house and they have all been ok up until now.. im now back to normal going about my daily business.

Like the previous post said the only way to know for sure if via a blood test!
