OK, i need some help here please!

I am running Windows Vista but need to install the following:

System Update Readiness Tool (KB9478210)[August 2008]
Windows Vista Service pack 1 (KB936330)

I can see from my Security History that these have been continually failing to install.

Apparantly I need to disable Norton Internet Security, then install both of these and then re enable Norton.

Sounds easy but how on earth do i do this??? Has anyone got same spec and has done this successfully please???

The version of Norton is 16.2.0.7.

I did right click on the Norton Internet Security icon at the bottom right of my screen and selected "disable Anti-virus Auto Protect" and then tried to install the System Readiness Tool, but this still failed so I assume there;s something moer I need to disable before I try again?

Also, whilst

I would go Start>Run and type "Msconfig" and in "Services" and "Startup" tab select anything relating to norton and disable it.

Reboot, do what you need to, then enable the items you unchecked and reboot again.

Thanks for the advice above.

I've been reading how carp Norton is, especially with Vista (and before anyone starts I know people don't like Vista but I've got it and I like it).

If I completely uninstalled Norton, would I be protected with Windows Defender and Windows Firewall or would I need something else as well (pref free but reliable and something that works wiith Vista!)?

Cheers - so if i have Windows Defender & Windows Firewall both turned on AND download Avast, I'll be pretty much protected (as best i can!).

I don't need anything else do I???
