T-Mobile can't be bothered to update Nokia 5800 to V40.0.005! **Angry**

ATTENTION!

T-Mobile can't be bothered to update the Nokia 5800 with the newer V40.0.005 firmware which was released by Nokia on around 13th January 2010. I and many others have paid close to £200 for this phone but T-Mobile just can't be bothered to get new update from Nokia and put their logos, wallpapers etc on it and release it to us, even though it brings the following new features:

* Kinectic Scrolling everywhere except: main menu, application menu, browser
* Homescreen similar to that of 5530 with 20 contacts.
* Removed the alphanumeric keypad in landscape version, now when we turned the phone alphanumeric portrait changes to full Qwerty
* New screen alarm, but only when the screen is locked
* Contacts installed
* Improved application Updating Applications, which also renames Upgrade SW;
* The application Data transfer was also implemented in Settings
* Real Player Updated to 12 October 2009
* Touch more responsive
* Improved stability

I've already opened a topic about this issue on the T-mobile support forum but again, they can't be bothered to even reply. So instead, I've sent them an angry e-mail stating they should release the update soon.

If you have this phone on T-mobile, doesn't matter what colour it is: red, blue, black, navi, chrome, please send them your own angry e-mail to their customer relations department on the e-mail below:

[email protected]

If you try to update from the phone using over-the-air or using a PC connection it will say the latest update is V31.0.101. However, this obviously isn't true as the latest update is V40.0.005.

Why not get the software and change the product code I think it is of your phone. This will allow you to get rid of the T-Mobile firmware and install the nokia generic firmware with latest updates more easily.

Ill try find you the name of software, can't remember off top my head

I know some people will say that you can change your product code but that's very risky and it may void your warranty as well.

I posted this topic about T-mobile not updating to V40 on the official t-mob forums here:

http://support.t-mobile.co.uk/discussions/index?page=forums&forum=8010360471609da012373fa1310007e1b&answers=y&act=new_topic&newguid=801038200b4002012650dabc0c007f97

Someone else also posted another topic on it here:

I already know it, it's called Nemesis but I don't want to break my 2 year warranty!

To be fair on T-Mobile, Nokia only released the firmware a week and a half ago...perhaps they're not answering your emails because they're busy scurrying around updating the software.

It's not just T-Mob who take longer than Nokia to release firmware, from past experience Voda, Orange and 3 have always delayed moving to the latest firmware by at least a couple of weeks, up to a few months in the case of 3 when I had an N78 with them! Gives them time to test that their updates (not just changing logos and wallpapers,you have network-specific settings for browsers, connections etc), work with their networks and that you get the features you want along with a less buggy phone!

Patience! :thumbsup:

Just updated manually to v31. My screen is weird, shows my messages, emails etc on the homepage. plus contacts have gone. :?:

T-Mobile's response to my e-mail:

Please accept my sincere apologies for any upset this has caused you. I'll certainly look into this to establish if there have been any issues.

I'm sorry to inform you but we don't have the date of release for this new software. However, you can download the this version from Nokia website and for any further queries regarding this software, you can contact Nokia at 0845 045 5555. They work from 9am to 9pm from Monday to Friday.

I understand this has been frustrating for you and this isn't an acceptable standard of service. However, we don't have any update about this software version.

Like I said, they don't know what's going on...

Kinetic scrolling is awesome... basically think of it as the faster you swipe the screen, the faster it scrolls down... similar to what you get on the iphone/ipod touch....

here's someone's video on youtube showing it in action... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02R_l0oHt2c (best example is when they go through the contacts!

I reckon 3-4 months is their usual turnaround time..... so nothing more we can do (other than NSS) :thumbsup:

@ Ambdon

You're right NSS is the best way. I used it yesterday and now I have V40.0.005, after installing the NSS it took seconds to do its work, I was left stunned! Works absolutely beautifully, way better than the current V31 by T-mob. On that one I used to get crashes whilst calling and other stability issues...

The Kinetic Scrolling is just so awesome it almost transforms the phone, but only almost because it's not applied to the main menu or applications, my personal guess on why is because Nokia don't want to be seen copying Apple's patented technology, especially since Apple and Nokia are currently in a huge court battle over patent issues. So now they can say we only partially use Kinetic Scrolling and differently to Apple blah blah.

In The End though as usual the consumer loses...

Have sent e-mail off to T-Mobile was going to anyway.I am also with 3 and their cust service is much better than T-Mobile also the 5800 (wifes) signal is not as good as my phone which is on the 3 network.T-Mobile customers should not have to wait for months to update to the latest version of the firmware but what can we do?

Which link did you follow to change the product code?

It's shown below, it also shows a nice and easy tutorial. One thing though, in the image in the link it shows the tab 'Phone Info' clicked and in the list it says 'Product Code', well this isn't how it looked in mine. Doesn't matter though, it works perfect.

I don't know the legality of this procedure so use at your own risk.

what an ignorant crybaby!

tmobile as you know brand their phones
nokias v40 release i proably being branded and being assured it is bug free

dont forget v31.0.008 had bugs, therefore tmobile delayed until all were fixed
then released 31.0.101

i guess the same is being done with v40
there are already reported bugs with the new version which tmobile do not want customers to have

surely this means t-mob customers will have to wait for nokia to release any updates to fix those bugs before they start branding/testing etc it again... thus making the wait longer still?

Oh get out of here. Why don't you do some proper Google searches and you'll find that most network providers are very slow because they're lazy/don't want to spend their resources on updates.

Every software has bugs xxxxxxxxxx that's part of life. Nokia have beta tested it to get rid of the many bugs they found. The v40 update is a great update which improves stability and includes many new features. I know because I have it now and people I know have it too(read my previous posts). Pretty much all of us think it's a fantastic update which fixes many bugs.

Think about it like this: If t-mob do release v40.1 with some fixes, do you think that's gonna be 100% perfect? didn't think so...
