i know you can download videos off youtube... so then its a case of splitting the video file from the audio file (don't know how easy that is though)

D/L TotalRecorder. You can record "what you hear" or direct from your "source" eg. soundcard. sorted!

In Windows XP:

Right click on the speaker icon in the tray on the bottom right corner of your screen and select "Open Volume Control"

Go to "Options" then "Properties"

Select "Recording" instead of "Playback" and click "OK"

Tick the 'Select" box under "Stereo Mix"

You can then use whatever recording software you want (I recommend Audacity) to record the music. Note that it will also record any other sound that occurs, so turn off your IM and e-mail programs before recording, or anything else that might make a sound.

Strictly speaking, no. But then again, strictly speaking it shouldn't even be on YouTube in the first place (unless it's done with the artists/publishers consent of course).

No, they're not the same thing so there's no 'kinda like' involved. It's illegal.

So long as it is for your own personal use or the recording is used for studying...apparently.

What's bad? If it's stuttering because of connection problems, you might do better downloading the video and playing it from your hard drive.

I've used the internet loads of times to get decent quality sounds/songs for video backing tracks .I use a minidisk recorder pluged into the headphone socket of the speakers .Sound quality is excellent on these disks. I play them back through the PC using a capture program , but audacity will do the same thing .I capture as a .wav ,edit them using CoolEdit , then convert to .mp3.
