Personally I would never go with a company that imposes download limits.

I pay £12 for unlimited broadband (speed around 18mb) and another £9 or so for the BT line, so only a couple of quid more than your option with CPW.

Talk talk are a terrible company and seem to be the salmon in the stream of internet and phone providers. They take a whole different approach to things the way that everyone else does the same way and have terrible customer service....on the plus side...they have good adverts on tv.....sorry if I have put you off but im sure others will have postive views on them....i dont have their service I just work in that industry and are an absolute nightmare to work with and customers always vent their frustation at their incompetence.

Which package do you have from BT that is only £9 or so? I thought their minimum monthly was £10.50, or possibly even £11.50? That's on Option 1. Cheers. shibi.

£9 was a guess, I don't know the actual amount, but it's around that.

been with them for years and never had any major problems ( touch wood )

Everyone has different experiences. Personally i found them to be the worst company i have ever dealt with...EVER!!! I cancelled within the 30 days when i switched to them and that was 2 years ago and they still send me a random bill every year or so with no explanation of why...made complaints, going to ombudsman as i found them truly awful!!

Never ever go with them
I stuck on 18 month contract the broadband connection drops every few minutes and in peak time it will be very slow
the call charge they charge even you talk for few seconds 11p like for local calls that which which now you can use mobile phones
when come to customer service you have to call 0870 number if your call attended and solved in just one call i will be amazed as they say call another number and they no call this and they say no call this department
so much annoying
BT offering now 0844 and 0870 numbers free as well

don't go better pay few quids extra and get better companies

My advice would be to keep your phone and broadband separate! although it will be cheaper to do both together...the company has too much power over your connection etc if you have problems with payment. Obviously if you have the spare money then do this but if you dont an all in one package is the only option.
#11
There ok as long as you do not want to move your broadband package in the future to anyone else. You cannot do it without moving phone line to someone else as well.

Just switched to Talk Talk after three years with Tiscali. Talk Talk have enabled LLU service through my exchange so I can get 2Mb download speeds from them instead of 512kb from everyone else. Service has been good so far and have had no need to contact customer services (touch wood). I read a lot of bad reviews of them but they could offer me better speed than anyone else.

I've been with talk talk for the last few years without any problems. My experience of talk talk is that most people who complain about them are people who have had to contact their support for whatever reason due to them having no knowledge of how the net, routers etc work. I have only had to speak to their support line on one occasion and I found it was ok( and its free phone support btw also) .If you know the basics about computers and how the internet works then you will be fine. My average speed is around the 8 - 9mb mark and I can't complain.

You didn't mention free calls.
So, you're paying more for less.

I'm with TalkSh*te, getting just under 2MB on my "up to 8"
It's ok, I suppose.
Main thing is the hassle so many have getting on in the 1st place.
One m8 gave up and cancelled.
Don't forget it's an 18 month contract.

Im just beginning to hate BT!!!
Maybe they are all the same

Say that again where you're not hooked up to one of the 20% of exchanges that can get O2/Be. Unless you want to pay £80 for proper unlimited broadband a download limit is often the lesser of two evils you have to choose between.

Unless you've had better speeds from another ISP then that's just inherent in the technology, the speed you get depends on the length of your phone line.

As for TalkTalk, I considered them myself a year ago but there were widespread reports of them throttling so I crossed them off my list.

throttling???????

Limiting your speed based on the time of day or what you're doing. e.g. You might get 1MB/s for web browsing but if you download a large file it's speed would be limited to 100kB/s, likewise you may get 1MB/s in the early morning but it might decline to 250kB/s in the evenings.

Unfortunately most ISPs don't publish these details and anecdotal accounts are usually sufficient to establish it's in place but it's rare the details get worked out. I'd prefer to not use any ISPs that do it but don't detail their system, to avoid any nasty surprises.

i've been with talk talk for about 2 years. Get 'free' internet at about 2 megs but have got about 5 megs before.
I thought there customer service was great but i've only phoned them up once.

Guess it must vary.

It's a case of you get what you pay for, there are plenty of dedicated ISPs out there that will give you excellent service and tech support such as Zen, but of course they can't match the prices of the big ISPs.
