I currently am with toucan for line rental and broadband at a cost of £16 as i have discounts for being with them for over 2 years, after calls this varies between £27 and £35 a month. Talk talk have contacted me and offered me line rental, free broadband and all day calls to landlines(01, 02) numbers for £20.99.
All i needed to to was get a mac code so i have signed up and will get free connection as long as i can get the damn mac code by monday 5pm.
I contacted toucan who have told me that with talk talk if i decided to leave after the 18 months then i would have to pay £125 to get back on the bt exchange which according to them most of the other companies run through and also they can say after 3 months just put the money up.
I know toucan are trying to keep my business they have offered me the same package for £24.99 but of course i can leave when i want so not sure what to do now!

Anyone any advice

My parents have the same deal from Orange for £17.99 a month. Think the bit about £125 is rubbish as I think it's still a bt line, just Talk Talk would bill you?

I don't think they could put the price up either, maybe after 18 months but not after 3.

Didnt think talk talk was unbundled and just used the normal BT exchange. Maybe they have different levels(?) though it sounds more like BS form a company trying to frighten you not to leave them.

talktalk now have the largest network outside bt and i know many people on that same deal @£21pm, the rest from toucan is bs for sure

But it's still a bt line isn't it? You don't have to pay £125 to get back on bt if you cancel do you?

Although everything goes through talktalk, it is still a BT line therefore no charge

My Mum changed to the Talk Talk about 3 months ago as it seemed such a great price but she has been really disappointed with the broadband speeds, she says everything is taking her twice as long, the pages refresh almost as slowly as she types!! :?

Tell her to post on the forums I linked to.

IIRC talk talk take ownership off the line and connect it to Talk talk equipment in the exchange.

So does that mean you have to pay £125 or not? I signed a friend up and I'm gonne be gutted if he gets a bill for £125!

You don't pay to join, no idea if you have to to move back to BT, pretty sure you don''t, that's 18 months away at the very least anyways.

About 14 months now! Hopefully he wouldn't have to pay!

no there is no "reconnection" or "migration" charge bt will gladly have you back for free
Technically its an Openreach line the wholesale company but due to the llu legislation they have to provide usage at "cost" to whatever telco.

should have signed up through quidco though - £45 for nowt.

Does he want to change back, I don't think I'll change back anytime soon, been with them 4 or 5 years in Febuary. Was originally on 512 for £20, now on a full 8meg for Free.

I doubt he'll change back, but have heard bad things and obviously if the price goes up he may change.

Talk Talk are not exactly the best of phone service providers!

When they started charging £1.50 for receiving an itemised bill, I simply cancelled and moved back to BT. (I did as they suggested first and click on paperless bill to avoid the charge - and also called them. They just ignored and carry on billing.)

I've long since gone, yet they are still drawing £1.50 every month - even though I'm no longer a customer. Have called several times and got the names of the people I've spoken to. Cant be bothered with them anymore. Just intend on calling my bank now and getting the DD reversed and refunded. Probably about 5 or 6 months worth to be re-imbursed
