...I've been toying with the idea of a tattoo for a while. I always said I wouldn't get one done but recently i've been looking around and found a few i like, and im getting one done soon.

Just wondered what HUKD folk thought of them? I understand some people LOVE tattoo's and some people hate them? ....and if you have got any.....how many have you got and what are they? if you wanted to post pics of them too feel free...may help me with what i want.

Hi,
I love tattoo's, I currently have 3 but planning more!
Got a star/sun type thing on the back of my neck, got my fiance's name in chinese running along the side of my right foot with star round it, and got a celtic design with a lily in the middle running down my right hip.
Want one on my left ankle, kind of a vine type things twisting round my ankle and up the bottom of my calf and possibly one on my wrist! Just can't decide what yet!
All I would say is make sure that you do your research in to good studio's and make sure that you really love the designs as once they are on they aren't going anywhere!! :-D

Just make sure it is something that you will still like in say 10 years time ( a hard thing to judge! ) I like tattoos, not the whole body art but some can be very classy and nice.

Its personal choice, make sure you go with a good tattoo artist though

Got four but as Kroozing said, I'd have a few more too.

I like them because they tell you how startlingly unoriginal and boring someone is without you having to engage in what will almost certainly be the soul destroying act of talking to them.

I actually like some tattoos, but find most people have the most cliched daubings that don't say anything about them.

Tribal ones are great...if you're part of a tribe of have some tenuous connection to one. They're about a rites of passage in some cultures and people in this country who have them rarely slay a wildebeest.

Girls with tattoos on their lower back....please have some imagination.

Football tattoos - if you're so needy to belong that you would ally yourself to a football team then good luck to you.

I've got a sleeve in progress on my right arm, so far got a koi then getting a samurai and dragon added to it with an eye on my elbow. On my left arm I'm getting a geisha. Probably gonna end up getting everywhere tattooed apart from my face

I love how people think that foreign languages inked on them confer some illusion of being cultured.

In essence they're a way of getting people to talk to you...'Ooh, what's that say?'.

The response is not based on anything more exciting than what some chap in a tattoo parlour has told you, and a thousand other uni students doing a gap year in Australia surrounded by other uni students from the same town/city/public school.

It's things likes this that make me realise how lucky I was to be given a name that I could so easily remember.

I suppose when your mum stops putting labels in your school clothes it can be a bit tricky when someone asks you 'what's your name?'

What on earth is an elvish font?

I love the idea that some guy working for a design company spent hours in front of a computer screen wondering what qualities a font used by elves (to type ancient sonnets on papyrus?) should have.

Yeah i just don't know what yet. tattoo mags are piling up and i haven't seen any i wany :x

Elvish is actually a really nice font, graphically speaking. It's popular with tattoos and such as it can be easily read but doesn't look plain and boring.

It is the the lord of the rings font, i wanted something that you couldn't tell straight away what it said.

Isn't a tattoo more meaningful if you get something that actually means something to you, rather than getting a tattoo for the sake of it?

Or is conforming to someone else's idea of 'fashion' more important?

From the looks of Kroozing's tattoos, the ones that convey writing are at the top of his arm so unless he walks around with a vest on 24/7 then I very much doubt they will be on show all the time and are undoubtedly not a way of 'getting people to talk to him'.

And it would appear that they are the names of his nephews, which would imply that they mean something to him and are not 'just for the sake of it'.

When I read Lord of the Rings I believe it was a fairly typical font, much like the font on here.

Unless you mean the font picked by someone at a publishing house to essentially market the book.

Then it's no different to getting the Coca Cola font because you love the sugary taste.

Doesn't he have one on his forearm?

Of course, I wouldn't put it past him to be one of those people all to ready to hitch up his sleeve and haphazardly steer the conversation to his remarkable tats.

Tattoos are handy in giving boring people something to take the attention away from their boring lives.

No i want something that i like and not something i will regret later in life. My nephews names do mean something to me and i have never thought of tattoos as fashion, nothing would go with my red handbag :whistling:
