the least painfull places are your shoulder blade and your upper am
i would advise to have a tattoo somewhere u want rather than least painful, you can buy a cream called ametop, u put it on an hour before and it will mostly if not totally numb the area, has to be applie a certain way but can advise on that another time.
if u just want text, no adornment go for somewhere like the wrist, or back of the neck where it wont look as lost, and go for a simple but nice script font
if u want adornment nice places are the foot, wrist again or shoulder blade
stars, swirls and flowers are nice
im a tattooist, not so much now as i decided to do a degree in graphic design now,but i was full time for a few years. i would gladly design something for you, as long as i was fully credited in photos etc for the design, but a good tattooist will have u make an appointment to work all that out with you and to draw something up beforehand at least a few days before your actual tattoo app
if u want any more advice let me know

thats very stereotypical
the main reason people regret their tattoos is because they give it less thought than they give their next meal, they go in to a studio and just point at whatever takes their fancy. if people have given it thought and have something meaningfull and done well they rarely do regret it. please dont be so closed minded

If you can't decide what to get or where to get it then don't. Give it some thought and when you've decided what you want and where get it booked. Its going to hurt where ever you get it but its bearable pain.

that is a good point, if theres even a shred of doubt, dont do it
just give it more thought and do some research into designs, its ok to be unsure of what u want because u havnt seen the right design yet, u will find the right design eventually, and itl be worth the wait

i think this is a great point!! all the tattoos i have i thought about them a while before hand and even once i knew what i wanted i waited about a month before i got it just to make sure!!

i was once told that a good tattoo artist wont cause to much pain make ure you go to a place thats been recomended to you by at least a few people.

i have my little girls name on my wrist and it didnt hurt the most painful one was up the side of my foot!!

depends on who you go to, where i worked used to charge £25 per 30mins, and £25 was the min charge (because whether it takes 10 or 30mins you still have to cover for equipment used etc), it shouldnt take more than 10mins to do so u shudnt expect to pay more than that, unless u go somewhere with a high reputation (like celeb of the tattoo world high, luis malloy for instance) and u could pay far more,iv heard those sorts of places charging £100-£150, but around £25 is about right for a decent reputable tattooist. but u may have to pay £5-£10 extra if u want numbing cream and an aftercare cream

Tatts on shoulder blade one of the least painful, its one of the more painful due to there being a shortage of flesh over the bone, the same reason ankles and wrists are bad, general rule of thumb is the fleshier the location the lower pain, although I'm odd in that I enjoy the sensation of the ink going on and the pleasant scratching sensation of the needle.

@OP its no use asking others what they think, when you find the right one you will know, it will shout out at you - trust me, remember its with you for life, but just judge on your instinct when you see the right one

that isnt true, some of the most painful places are stomach and bum, the most fleshy parts of the body, the reason ankles and wrists are bad is part because its closer to the bone (if u actually feel though the inner wrist isnt at all close to the bone) but also due to it being narrow places where all the veins and capillaries and nerves are grouped closed together. personally i think the shoulder blade should be painful, its possible that ur shoulders become resillient from being exposed, or its just that the way someone is sat when being tattooed there has a effect, but of all the people that came n the studio where i worked, the places people felt were least painful were shoulder blade and upper arm

I have 4 tattoos and the least painful ones I had were the ones on the backs of my shoulders. I have a butterfly one side that was £50, a bunny on my hip which was £25, a big one on base of my back which was £100 and my most recent one is my kids names on other shoulder with 3 stars underneath which was also £50. Price depends on size, lettering, colour etc. I wouldn't think too much about the pain side of it, just decide where you want it and get it there! It will hurt wherever you get it but as said before, it is a bareable pain, you get used to it after about 5 mins! Good luck with whatever you decide though :)

don't bother,you will regret it

i have 3 tattoos- 1 on base of my back, one on outside of my left foot and one on outside of my right foot and they all killed!! lol soz but its true... gonna get more tho so the pain obvo isnt that bad... i did take a long time to think of mine and where to get them but once i thought long and hard i knew i'd chosen the right ones... i'll never regret any of the ones i have now, love them but thats why i'm taking a long time to think about what to get next :)

That is gorgeous :-D if only I had more room left on my back!

Design something yourself or get someone with some artistic merit to do it will you, That way you know your tatt will be unique and have real meaning to you,

I Find the people that regret them have just picked a generic design from the wall and the tatt has no depth of meaning to them

As for the pain it really ain't that bad, i found it bearable and the results for me were well worth some shorttime discomfort

Good luck

This thread has given me the push to get my next one done, so got it sorted to be done next week, going for an angel/devil ambigram on my left inner forearm, pretty much like this with the artists own interpreation

got 3 myself- one on my upper arm and two on the inside of my wrist/arm

i didn't find any really painful but my gf got one on the inside of her wrist and was sweating and looked in serious pain, its all down to your pain threshold but enjoy it eat some chocloate before you go to keep your sugars high and don't drink alcohol

all these people who say you will regret it load of rubbish i got my first one around 7-8 years ago and still love it as much as i did the first day i got it

what about getting your daughter to write her name if she is old enough or doodle a little picture or a hand print or something along those lines

good luck remember to post some pics when you have had it done :thumbsup:

Get a greenish/blueish blob where you can barely make out what it is. That will save the inevitable disapointment in 10yrs time.

Or a swallow on your hand (the part between the thumb and forefinger).

All horrible, just scream council estate. Either alcoholic thug or teenage mum.

And whats wrong with council estates? Neither a alcoholic or teenage mum and 99% of the time no thug either only usualy when needs be, and then only with narrow minded bigots who are not capable of thinking past stereotypes:whistling:

So if you live in council property you are a leach? I'm willing to wager you have never been on a council estate? Granted some a rough, the one I live people dont even realise it is council, the majority of people work hard for a living, keep there homes and gardens tidy and are decent people.
