Heres the problem,

im installed windows on an old PCG sony vaio, XP loads the start up files to the hard drive, then it goes to;

setup is starting windows, and then it switches off,

i thought it may be a bad hard drive, so i siwtched it, and have the same problem, its not the battery as its plugged into dc, I ran mem check on the memory and thats fine no errors. 2 x 256mb modules which are both running at the same speed, and are both pc2100.

Any suggestions appreciated? thank you very much for your time.

trying new charger as the one that came with it is universal. which has a max amps of 5. where as the required is actually 6.2amps so maybe this is it, I will post shortly.

Its not the battery ive removed it completely, since changing the charger to an official vaio 1 i managed to install the operating system fine, got to updating the system and it powers off again,

it doesnt appear to be extremely hot, but the hard drive, and memory feel quite hot above the usual standard heat thats given off. the fnas are working so my guess is its probably an overheating issue now.

CPU.. bios is not likely to have a shutdown for it @ certain temp ~(if a laptop you are on about) but check to make sure it has not been lowered (if it by chance has one) and clean fans anyway, maybe take CPU off and apply some new thermal after cleaning existing

As it turns out it was the new charger id used, another faulty one. so im using another and it works perfectly fine now. just struggling for the support drivers for it on vaio site cannot find this model... typical.

its a pcg-k415s - PCG-9s2m
