I have a Linksys WAG54g wireless ADSL router that I need to connect to so I can change a couple of settings.
When I plug an ethernet cable between the NIC and the router I just get two simultaneous flashing lights on the NIC but no connection and nothing on the router.
The laptop does register a cable being plugged in because I get the usual 'network cable is unplugged message' but nothing else.
I've tried another ethernet cable, reset TCP/IP, tried 3 different driver versions and rolled my system back to when I know it was working before.
The NIC is a SIS 900 (very common) on board on an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop.
The strange thing is Wireless works perfectly which I would have thought would rule out a physical problem with the NIC.
I've had a good look for any existing threads but couldn't find anything useful.
Thought I would try here first in case anyone can come up with some more suggestions.
Personally I just want to take a large hammer to it to vent some frustration
Any help would be really appreciated. The router is configured for a mix of 802.11b/g at the moment and I need to change it back to 802.11g dedicated as my 54Mbps connection is only running at about 20% of what it should.
